Overview
Teppei is a supporting non-playable character featured in the Inazuma storyline of Genshin Impact. Serving within the Sangonomiya Resistance on Watatsumi Island, he fights alongside his comrades in an effort to overturn the Vision Hunt Decree. Despite possessing no Vision or elemental powers, his earnest ambition drives him to forge a warm friendship and friendly rivalry with the Traveler, though his eagerness to prove his worth on the battlefield ultimately leads him toward a tragic fate.
Appearance
He is depicted with short brown hair secured by a cloth headband and clad in the standard armor of the Sangonomiya resistance army, rendered in dark maroon and black. After suffering the physical toll of using a Fatui Delusion, his appearance deteriorates dramatically, marked by rapidly graying hair, deeply wrinkled skin, and a visibly frail frame.
Personality
Teppei is characterized by an upbeat, highly motivated disposition and an intense desire to prove his worth on the battlefront. He greets the Traveler with genuine warmth, readily accepting them as an equal partner and a close comrade. However, his hidden insecurity regarding his ordinary martial skill leads him to feel inadequate compared to Vision holders, leaving him vulnerable to taking dangerous risks in pursuit of military recognition.
Abilities
Lacking a Vision, Teppei relies on standard martial capabilities rather than elemental abilities. Through continuous effort, he achieves recognition within the armed forces and earns an appointment as captain of the Herring I Unit. Upon acquiring a Fatui Delusion from secret sponsors, he temporarily gains enhanced combat prowess, though using the device rapidly drains his life force.
Background
Driven by a desire to abolish the Vision Hunt Decree, Teppei enlists in the Sangonomiya Resistance in Inazuma. Upon meeting the Traveler at the front line, he forms a close friendship as both strive to advance through the ranks. Although Teppei achieves his goal of becoming a squad commander, his progress is secretly enabled by a Fatui Delusion. The device rapidly drains his vitality, causing accelerated aging that results in his premature death at the resistance base, leaving behind a lasting impact on his allies.
Relationships
He shares a warm bond of camaraderie with the Traveler, viewing them as both a trusted partner and a rival in military achievement. Within the Sangonomiya Resistance, General Gorou serves as his direct superior officer. Teppei also holds great reverence for Sangonomiya Kokomi, remaining dedicated to her vision for liberating Inazuma from the Vision Hunt Decree.
Trivia
Teppei's tragic demise from the side effects of the Fatui Delusion serves as a crucial emotional turning point in the Inazuma storyline. His death directly motivates the Traveler to investigate the secret Delusion manufacturing facility and confront the Fatui Harbinger Scaramouche.
