Overview
Hakari Atsuko is a first-year student at Arius Branch School and a key member of the Arius Squad in Blue Archive. Possessing the royal bloodline of the former Arius student council, she is respectfully referred to as Princess by her teammates. Characterized by the mysterious gas mask she constantly wears, she conceals a gentle and unexpectedly playful personality beneath her enigmatic exterior. In combat, she serves as a frontline evasion tank wielding a submachine gun to protect her allies.
Appearance
She features light purple hair tied into twin braids, red eyes, and a halo above her head. During tactical operations, she constantly wears a full-face gas mask. Her clothing consists of a white hooded jacket worn over a high-cut leotard inner suit, paired with white knee-high socks and short boots. A holster holding a compact taser is strapped to her thigh. In her swimsuit outfit, she wears a white swimsuit, a wide-brimmed sun hat, a necklace, and sandals while carrying a personal digital camera.
Personality
Despite her quiet and enigmatic impression, Atsuko harbors an unexpectedly playful and mischievous temperament. She delights in teasing Sensei with bold questions—such as asking how children are born—and convincing them to play school make-believe inside vacant classrooms. After gaining her freedom, she begins to show the genuine curiosity of a young girl, taking great joy in cultivating flowerbeds in urban corners. She is intensely devoted to her squadmates, offering them warm support while showing zero hesitation in taking decisive action against anyone who mistreats her friends.
Abilities
She operates as an Explosive-type evasion tank utilizing her primary submachine gun Scorpius alongside a secondary taser. Her EX skill deploys a flower-shaped drone centered on her location, delivering continuous healing to allies within its radius. She periodically throws smoke grenades to increase team evasion and gains substantial self-evasion boosts when her health falls below thirty percent. Possessing strong Mystery due to her royal lineage, her power was exploited to mass-produce replicas of the Justina Council. In her swimsuit form, she acts as a support healer capable of low-cost targeted healing.
Background
As the direct descendant of Arius Branch School's former student council president, Atsuko was targeted by Beatrice, who seized control during a civil war and planned to use Atsuko as a sacrifice to summon the Chroma. Protected by Jomae Saori and the Arius Squad, she endured rigorous combat duties. During the Eden Treaty crisis, she threw herself in front of a halo-destroying bomb to protect Saori, resulting in her protective mask breaking. She later offered herself as a sacrifice to guarantee her teammates' survival, but was rescued from the altar by her squad and Sensei. Following her liberation, she spent time wandering before eventually becoming the president of Arius's provisional student council to guide its restoration.
Relationships
Within the Arius Squad, she is cherished as their Princess. She provides constant emotional stability for Iwaino Misaki and Tuchinaga Hiyori, caring for them after Saori's departure. Her bond with Jomae Saori is profound, as demonstrated when Atsuko shielded her from an attack by their former teammate Shirasu Azusa. She was targeted as a sacrifice by Beatrice, the usurper of Arius. During later events, she exchanged mutual apologies with Kiritof Nagisa of Trinity Integrated Academy over historical grievances. She also shares a surprisingly harmonious friendship with Urawa Hanako. Toward Sensei, she holds immense gratitude and trust, frequently showing her affection through playful interactions.
Trivia
Her signature weapon Scorpius is modeled after the Czech CZ Scorpion EVO 3 A1 submachine gun. The unique smirk she revealed after removing her gas mask became a widely recognized internet meme known as the Atsuko Grin. She prefers receiving whole plants with their roots attached over cut flowers so she can plant them in her flowerbeds. Her signature cafe furniture item, the Royal Diamond Chair, possesses a curious placement constraint that prevents it from being positioned facing away from the Glass Window furniture associated with her squadmates.
