Overview
Yabuki Shuro is a character from Blue Archive who belongs to the Nature's Beauty Club (Kachoufuugetsu) at Hyakkiyako Alliance Academy. Serving as a primary antagonist in the Hyakkaryouran story arc, she is a mysterious self-proclaimed ghost storyteller who sows chaos across the academy using uncanny supernatural powers and psychological tactics.
Appearance
Shuro is a girl of petite stature with pointy ears, magenta eyes, and long grayish-purple hair styled in a jellyfish cut. Floating above her head is a magenta ring-shaped halo accented with three cloud-like ornaments. Her body is heavily bound in bandages and gauze over numerous scars. She wears a revealing, Japanese-style outfit featuring detached sleeves, an obi sash, exposed shoulders and midriff area, wooden clogs, and black nail polish. She carries a traditional matchlock rifle as her firearm.
Personality
Shuro is a manipulative and provocative individual who takes pleasure in stoking conflict and driving others into emotional turmoil and despair. Although she maintains a polite manner of speech referring to herself and others with formal archaisms, she easily loses her temper when thwarted, exposing a childish temperament that devolves into tearful tantrums when cornered. Despite her ruthless malice, she possesses supreme confidence in her own writing abilities, remaining entirely unembarrassed when her dramatic web novels are exposed. She harbors intense devotion toward Kokuriko.
Abilities
Shuro possesses uncanny abilities that transcend typical student capabilities, rendering both herself and her summoned entities largely immune to standard gunfire. Rather than engaging directly in physical combat with her matchlock rifle, she primarily attacks through conceptual manipulation and verbal tactics to weaken her targets' psychological state. By invoking the magic of grimoires such as the Inou Mononoke Roku and Toutei Mononoke Roku, she can summon and command supernatural phenomena, tsukumogami, and urban legends like Nekomyo Kurokage, as well as bestow power upon others through her written words.
Background
Operating within the secretive Kachoufuugetsu club at Hyakkiyako Alliance Academy, Shuro set out to accomplish a disastrous sequence of one hundred ghost stories. She targeted members of the Hyakkaryouran Council, orchestrating internal discord and sending threats to the Yin-Yang Board before unleashing supernatural entities during the Lantern Festival. Although her scheme was crushed by the combined efforts of the Teacher and the Hyakkaryouran students, resulting in the destruction of her primary grimoire, she managed to escape. She subsequently obtained another magical tome, the Toutei Mononoke Roku, attempting to re-establish her influence while continuing her activities from the shadows.
Relationships
Shuro is fiercely loyal to Kokuriko, the leader of Kachoufuugetsu, who treats Shuro with special favor, whereas her relation with fellow club member Habu Azami is somewhat tense. Within the Hyakkaryouran Council, she singled out Nagusa Goryo for intense psychological harassment and manipulated Yukari Kasuga's inner distress. She harbors friction with Ayame Nanakusa, who once knocked her unconscious. Though initially hostile toward the Teacher, she was deeply shaken when the Teacher shielded her from harm. Additionally, Niya Hanuma of the Yin-Yang Board is a fan of her online writing.
Trivia
Shuro enjoys surfing the internet and publishes web novels under the pen name Kutsuki Shura, including a title called The Strongest Ghost Storyteller. She strongly dislikes eating green onions. Her primary weapon is modeled after a historic matchlock musket, representing one of the oldest firearm archetypes depicted in Kivotos. During early development, her character design originally featured a tall, brightly dressed figure with pink hair, but artist PARURU adjusted the concept to her current petite, Japanese-style design to better fit her crafty and bratty persona in the story.
