Hoshino

Overview

A third-year student at Abydos High School, serving as the leader of the Foreclosure Task Force and president of the student council. Despite her small stature and slacker demeanor—often referring to herself as an "old man"—she is deeply devoted to safeguarding her school and underclassmen. Beneath her lazy exterior lies one of the most formidable powers in Kivotos, positioning her as an unyielding shield on the front lines whenever danger arises.

Appearance

Hoshino has a petite, child-like stature with a slightly slouching posture and a single visible fang. She features very long pink hair topped with a notably large ahoge, and heterochromatic eyes—yellow on the right and blue on the left. Floating above her head is a pink, three-layered halo modeled after the Eye of Horus motif. Her standard attire consists of a white collared shirt secured with a chest harness, a blue necktie, and a black plaid skirt, accompanied by a folded shield resembling a bag.

Personality

Hoshino frequently refers to herself as an "old man" and adopts a relaxed, lazy persona, prioritizing naps and avoiding administrative duties, which often draws lectures from her younger peers. This daytime drowsiness stems from her secret nocturnal patrols to ensure the safety of the Abydos district. She harbors a passionate interest in marine biology, particularly whales and tropical fish. While she maintains a pragmatic skepticism toward adults due to past trauma, she possesses a keen tactical mind and an unwavering resolve to protect her friends, even if it requires bearing burdens alone.

Abilities

Hoshino wields a semi-automatic shotgun named Eye of Horus alongside a collapsible ballistic shield capable of enduring extreme thermal energy attacks. In combat, she serves as a durable front-line anchor, utilizing forward charges that inflict knockback and stun, self-healing mechanisms at low health, and barrier generation. In her combat configuration, she can alternate between a defensive stance focusing on shield barriers and enemy defense reduction, and an aggressive stance employing a chest-holstered handgun and smoke grenades. In aquatic gear, she generates a tactical support area that boosts ally attack power, explosive efficacy, and energy recovery rate.

Background

Hoshino enrolled during a desperate period for Abydos High School as it buckled under massive financial debt. As a first-year, she was a fierce fighter acting alongside Student Council President Yume. Following Yume's tragic passing, Hoshino adopted her long hair and laid-back attitude while inheriting Yume's ballistic shield. She later established the Foreclosure Task Force alongside Sunaookami Shiroko and Izayoi Nonomi. Though targeted by Kaiser PMC and Gematria due to the immense strength of her inherent Mystic, she was rescued through the joint efforts of Sensei and her fellow students. Overcoming continuous crises and facing her unresolved grief, she eventually reconciled with her past and formally assumed the role of Abydos Student Council President.

Relationships

Her deceased senior, Yume, held a profound influence on Hoshino, and her loss profoundly reshaped Hoshino's worldview and personality. She treats her Foreclosure Task Force underclassmen—Sunaookami Shiroko, Izayoi Nonomi, Kuromi Serika, and Okusora Ayane—with deep affection, acting as their primary protector. While initially distrustful of adults, she develops deep faith in Sensei after surviving numerous trials together. She maintains mutual respect regarding combat prowess with Sorasaki Hina of Gehenna Academy, and shares a friendly connection with Ajitani Hifumi of Trinity Integrated Academy through joint operations.

Trivia

Hoshino's design and equipment incorporate motifs derived from the Egyptian deity Horus, including the Eye of Horus symbol and shield engravings. Her swimsuit variant became widely known among fans by a unique nickname referencing her "old man" persona. Her relaxed vocal mannerisms and comical remarks about lounging are iconic traits of her character, and she was featured in a traditional Chinese dress during a collaboration with Mahjong Soul.
