Kanoe

Overview

Itagaki Kanoe is a playable character appearing in the tactical role-playing mobile game Blue Archive. As a third-year student at Wild Hunt Academy, she belongs to the Occult Studies Club. Despite being the sole senior student within the club, she deliberately chooses to act as a supportive mentor in the background rather than holding the title of club president. Characterized by her sinister, witch-like appearance and peculiar behavior, rumors surround her across the campus suggesting that she herself might be a living occult phenomenon.

Appearance

She has untidy, extremely long grey hair styled into a two-side-up look with bangs covering one eye, accompanied by a light brown halo shaped like a six-petaled flower with fine lines. Her slender frame features remarkably pale skin and seam-like lines along her neck. Her attire consists of a long-sleeved white collared shirt beneath a grey double-breasted pinafore dress, accented by a diagonally striped brown neck ribbon, black pantyhose, and black loafers. She also wears a unique hair accessory styled after her own eye.

Personality

Kanoe maintains a mysterious, hard-to-read aura marked by a flat, monotonous tone and a distinctive laugh. She enjoys exploiting her eerie reputation to startle others and frequently uses her voice manipulation skills to play mischievous pranks. Obsessed with concepts of fate and past lives, she repeatedly asserts a romantic destiny with Sensei, claiming they were deeply connected in a prior existence. Though her unsettling appearance gives off a gloomy impression, she is surprisingly proactive, sociable, and resourceful, leveraging an unusually broad network of acquaintances across the school.

Abilities

In combat, she serves as a heavy-armored frontline tank using a vintage flintlock-style shotgun named Trismegistus, which features a distinctive flared muzzle. Her active skill allows her to restore her own health and purge debuffs by consuming a potion brewed in a cauldron. She can periodically lower enemy critical damage resistance in an area, while also accelerating the team's skill cost recovery, especially when paired with heavy-armored allies. Outside of battle, she can command crows and black cats like familiars, possesses culinary and pharmaceutical skills involving alchemy, and displays extraordinary vocal flexibility, including ventriloquism and voice mimicry.

Background

As a member of the Occult Studies Club at Wild Hunt Academy, Kanoe engages in researching mysterious phenomena associated with art. During a club investigation involving magic circles, she and her club members accidentally triggered an explosion, leading to temporary confinement, though she effortlessly bypassed trouble thanks to her personal connections. While keeping her academic major a secret from most peers, she actually studies voice acting and is already a successful commercial voice actress. Her eerie, witch-like persona was originally created to mask her natural shyness and difficulty communicating, serving as a means to help reform her own personality.

Relationships

Kanoe expresses intense affection toward Sensei, insisting that they share a soulmate bond carried over from a past life. Within the Occult Studies Club, she acts as a supportive mentor to club president Eri Shirao, observing her antics with fond amusement. She delights in pranking her fearful junior Rena Ibi—whom she humorously claims was her pet cat in a former life—while maintaining a trusted relationship with her, and shows easy comprehension of Tsumugi Shiina's unique eccentricities. Additionally, she maintains close contacts outside the club, including a long-standing friendship with dorm supervisor Miria and discrete dealings with Miyo Sakurai of the Special Trade Department.

Trivia

The name of her personal firearm, Trismegistus, is derived from Hermes Trismegistus, a legendary figure associated with alchemy and occult lore. The weapon itself is modeled after a historic European blunderbuss musket, ranking among the oldest firearm types equipped by playable students in the title. According to official design notes, her character concept evolved from a sinister older sister type into a gloomy baby-faced senior, with extensive debate over whether her legwear should be black or white.
