Overview
Habu Azami is an antagonist appearing in the main story of Blue Archive. Initially posing as the polite and welcoming Disciplinary Committee President of Ebisu Branch School at Hyakkiyako Alliance Academy, she is actually a member of the enigmatic Kachoufuugetsu Club. Operating under the title of a phantom artist, she manipulates terrifying supernatural phenomena born from human dread to stir chaos across the district.
Appearance
Azami has long, two-tone black and white hair. Upon revealing her true form, her hair transforms into serpentine tendrils resembling Medusa, accompanied by slit pupils with yellow and green heterochromia, a split tongue, and sharp fangs. She features a beauty mark below her mouth and polished black nails. Her halo is silver-grey with a swirling spiral design. She wears a sleeveless black kimono featuring bare shoulders, an open-side skirt, over-the-knee boots, and a traditional straw hat. A full-sized Type 38 rifle is slung across her back.
Personality
On the surface, Azami presents herself with refined, polite manners. In truth, she is treacherous and sadistically delights in watching others fall into despair and terror. She holds deep allegiance to her leader, Kokuriko, though she easily cowers under her commanding aura. In contrast, she openly disdains her fellow club member Yabuki Shuro, criticizing her taste in ghost stories.
Abilities
Azami wields a cursed text known as the Inatei Mononokeroku, which possesses the power to bring human terror into concrete reality as supernatural anomalies. She can project vivid illusions to disorient her targets and guide them into traps. Beyond her deceptive magic, she possesses formidable combat capability, easily overpowering skilled combatants like Kikyou and Renge.
Background
Azami occupied the abandoned Ebisu Branch School by impersonating its committee president, using it as a front for the Kachoufuugetsu Club. During the conflict in Hyakkiyako, she ambushed the visiting investigators and trapped them within the Higan-tei mansion. She subsequently orchestrated a disruption at the Wakaraku Festival, but her plan fell apart due to stall tactics from Niya and complications caused by Shuro. Following her defeat, she vanished alongside Kokuriko without a trace.
Relationships
Azami yields absolute obedience to Kokuriko, the leader of the Kachoufuugetsu Club, despite feeling intimidated by her. She looks down on her clubmate Yabuki Shuro, viewing her methods as tasteless. In her schemes, she targets the Hyakkaryouran Conflict Resolution Committee—specifically defeating and imprisoning Kikyou and Renge—while being delayed by the clever maneuverings of Niya from the Yin-Yang Bureau.
Trivia
Her surname Habu is notably common in Hokkaido, reflecting the northern setting of the Ebisu Branch School, while also punning on the Japanese word for pit viper (habu). Her given name refers to the thistle flower (azami), which carries language-of-flowers meanings such as revenge. Her mythic motifs draw heavily from Japanese folklore monsters including the snake woman (hebi-onna) and futakuchi-onna.
