Overview
Phrenapates is a character who appears in the Final Chapter of the smartphone game Blue Archive as the mysterious "Guide of Chroma." Serving the plans of the Nameless Priests alongside Shiroko Terror, he is revealed to be the tragic, altered counterpart of Sensei from an alternate timeline.
Appearance
Phrenapates presents a terrifying exterior resembling a casket fitted with a death mask, out of which a bandaged left arm extends. His actual body beneath is severely injured, with his face immobilized by a plate structure, his sight lost, and his ability to speak gone. He carries a cracked Shittim Chest bearing distinct bullet holes, along with a blackened, heavily damaged Adult Card.
Personality
Though converted into a puppet of the Nameless Priests and mockingly given a name meaning "deceiver," his underlying character remains driven by an absolute sense of duty as an adult and a teacher. He willingly accepts a tragic transformation to shield Shiroko from destruction, demonstrating an unyielding devotion to protecting his students even after losing his original self.
Abilities
While wielding no firearms, Phrenapates commands an altered Shittim Chest and a blackened Adult Card in combat. He utilizes his Shittim Chest to block incoming attacks, alter the surrounding battlefield terrain, and override enemy command structures. Through his Adult Card, he expends resources to upgrade Shiroko Terror, summon helicopter air support, and concentrate massive energy reserves to trigger high-damage attacks.
Background
In his home timeline, Sensei was left comatose by a devastating explosion at SCHALE. Over the following hundred days, the student task force fell apart through tragic deaths, disappearances, and despair, driving Shiroko to become an agent of ruin. Upon awakening, Sensei intervened to protect her, surrendering his form to Chroma to absorb her burden. Guided into the present timeline as Phrenapates, he ultimately fights his counterpart to ensure a safe future for his student before finally passing away.
Relationships
He acts as the ultimate protector of Shiroko Terror, sacrificing his life to spare her from despair. He opposes the will of the Nameless Priests, who attempt to manipulate him as a tool. Towards the alternate Sensei, he holds absolute trust, leaving his final wishes for the students in his counterpart's hands. He is accompanied throughout his final journey by A.R.O.N.A, the alternate AI later known as Plana.
Trivia
The name Phrenapates originates from the Greek word for "deceiver." In battle, his skill activations can be interrupted by inflicting heavy crowd-control status effects. Upon his defeat, he drops a burnt Adult Card which can be used to acquire Pyroxenes, leaving behind card powder; later game updates added a one-time crafting recipe allowing players to restore the card using Pyroxenes.
