Overview
Absalom is a major officer of the Thriller Bark Pirates in ONE PIECE, serving as one of the elite leaders known as the Mysterious Four. He commands both the Soldier Zombies and General Zombies under Gecko Moria. Nicknamed Absalom of the Graveyard, he was surgically modified by Dr. Hogback into a beast-like human.
Appearance
Absalom features long blonde hair, facial hair including a mustache and beard, and red eyes. He wears a hat and boots. Due to surgical modifications by Dr. Hogback, his body integrates a lion's jaw, elephant skin, and the muscles of bears and gorillas, giving him a beast-like appearance despite being human.
Personality
Absalom possesses a highly perverted streak, frequently taking advantage of his invisibility powers to peep on bathing women, earning him the nickname Erosalom from his zombie subordinates. He is obsessed with acquiring a living human bride. Despite his predatory behavior, he can be flustered and blush over romantic matters like kissing, and displays a foolish side by prioritizing his marriage during battles. He frequently growls like a wild animal and enjoys inventing unique acronyms. He maintains strong loyalty toward his captain, Gecko Moria.
Abilities
Having eaten the Paramecia-type Clear-Clear Fruit (Suke Suke no Mi), Absalom can make himself and any object or person he touches completely invisible, allowing him to conduct covert operations and surprise attacks. He conceals bazookas on his arms using his power to fire unseen explosive blasts called Dead Man's Hand. His body is reinforced with 300kg of grafted animal hide and muscle, granting him formidable physical durability and strength.
Background
Hailing from the West Blue, Absalom encountered the Straw Hat Pirates on Thriller Bark, where he kidnapped Nami to force her into marriage, only to be defeated by Sanji and knocked out by Nami. Following the Summit War, he rescued the injured Gecko Moria. He later worked as a freelance reporter named Absa, using his invisibility to acquire exclusive news scoops. Eventually, he infiltrated Beehive island, where he was captured and killed by the Blackbeard Pirates, who passed his Devil Fruit ability to Shiryu.
Relationships
Absalom serves closely under Gecko Moria alongside his fellow Thriller Bark officer Dr. Hogback, who modified his body. He earned the wrath of Sanji after kidnapping Nami for marriage, as Sanji deeply coveted the Clear-Clear Fruit himself. His life was ultimately taken by the Blackbeard Pirates, with his capability transferred to Shiryu.
Trivia
Absalom has a habit of taking peculiar shortenings of phrases he creates and repeating them fondly throughout his appearances.
