Overview
Lucky Roux is a character from ONE PIECE who serves as the cook and a senior officer in the Red Hair Pirates, led by the Emperor of the Sea, Shanks. Present since the very first chapter of the series, he is a prominent member of the crew recognized by his rotund physique and his habit of constantly eating meat on the bone.
Appearance
Lucky Roux has a massive, rotund frame and stands at 241 cm tall. He wears green and white striped clothing, a yellow cape, and goggles fitted with red lenses. He is almost always depicted holding and eating a piece of meat on the bone in his right hand.
Personality
He possesses a jovial and cheerful demeanor, frequently serving as the mood-maker of the crew. Despite his bright smile, he is eager for combat and displays a ruthless side towards enemies, willing to shoot them without hesitation while maintaining his cheerful grin. He also exhibits an awkwardness around women and children.
Abilities
He relies on a flintlock pistol in combat, taking advantage of openings to shoot opponents with lethal precision. Skilled in using Busoshoku Haki, he combines his heavy frame with high mobility to launch rolling body-slam attacks that bowl over multiple enemies.
Background
Hailing from the South Blue, Lucky Roux appeared early in the story visiting Foosha Village with his crew. When a mountain bandit threatened Shanks at gunpoint, Roux swiftly eliminated the attacker, leaving a lasting impression of a true pirate's nature on the young Monkey D. Luffy. He later joined his crewmates in stopping the Marineford summit war and attended the funerals of Whitebeard and Ace.
Relationships
He shares a close bond with his captain, Shanks, whom he addresses familiar terms. Shanks accommodates Roux's discomfort around women by avoiding bringing female crewmates aboard. Alongside fellow officers like Benn Beckman and Yasopp, he helps form a formidable core crew and has maintained a friendly interest in Monkey D. Luffy since childhood.
Trivia
His name is believed to derive from the nickname of a real-world military vessel. Despite his enormous appetite and constant meat consumption, he reportedly considers himself to be on a diet. An alternate version of his character design previously appeared as a minor enemy henchman in the early one-shot prototype ROMANCE DAWN.
