Overview

Lao G is a character from the manga series ONE PIECE created by Eiichiro Oda. He serves as an executive officer under the Diamante Army division within the Donquixote Pirates, led by Donquixote Doflamingo. As a martial artist representing the Donquixote Family, he acts as a prominent antagonist during the Dressrosa Arc.

Appearance

Lao G is an elderly man with a bald head featuring prominent bulging veins, a mustache, and a noticeably potbellied physique. In his younger years, he possessed a massive build and wore a distinctive hat with rabbit ears. Due to advanced presbyopia, he struggles to perceive small beings right in front of his eyes without reading glasses. When releasing his full martial arts potential, his body transforms into a muscular powerhouse.

Personality

Lao G exhibits a serious commitment to his duties, though his loyalty rests strictly in the belief that all crew members exist solely as pawns for Donquixote Doflamingo. Despite his harsh pragmatism, he possesses a eccentric habit of forming the letter 'G' with his hands and striking a dramatic pose whenever saying words containing specific phonetic sounds. He can also be absentminded due to his advanced age, sometimes making simple mistakes or inadvertently slipping near death mid-battle.

Abilities

Lao G is a non-Devil Fruit combatant who masters 'Jio-Ken,' a specialized martial art that converts the physical aches and bodily ailments of old age into fighting power. His moves are humorously named after common geriatric health issues such as back pain, eye strain, and stiff shoulders. Through this discipline, he demonstrates extreme speed comparable to Sori and raw physical strength capable of stopping heavy weapon strikes with a single finger. His ultimate technique, 'Sentou Hoken,' allows him to release stored muscular power built up since his youth, regaining his peak physical strength to launch devastating blows.

Background

As a long-standing executive of the Donquixote Pirates, Lao G has served Donquixote Doflamingo for decades and even instructed a young Trafalgar Law in hand-to-hand combat. During the Dressrosa crisis, he originally joined the Corrida Colosseum events before being assigned to guard the Toy House. After accidentally boarding the wrong elevator, he clashed with Thunder Soldier and the Tontatta warriors. Later, he engaged in battle against Don Chinjao and Sai of the Happo Navy. Although he nearly passed away mid-fight due to extreme old age, he managed to regain his composure using his ultimate art, only to be defeated by Sai's awakened technique after infuriating him over the treatment of Baby 5.

Relationships

Lao G maintains absolute devotion to Donquixote Doflamingo, viewing everything in service to his captain's vision. In the past, he acted as a martial arts mentor to Trafalgar Law. His objectifying view of fellow crewmate Baby 5 as merely a useful tool ultimately triggered her defection and provoked the wrath of Sai, the 13th leader of the Happo Navy. During the clash in Dressrosa, he fought directly against both Sai and his grandfather, Don Chinjao.

Trivia

The prominent inclusion of the letter 'G' in his name and trademark poses is derived from a wordplay on his birthday of October 7th, where the 7th letter of the English alphabet corresponds to G. His favorite food is aged steak.
