Overview
Yasopp is an executive and the master sniper of the Red Hair Pirates, led by the Emperor Shanks. Hailing from Syrup Village in the East Blue, he is the biological father of Usopp, the sniper for the Straw Hat Pirates. Known by the epithet "Chaser," he stands as one of the central figures aboard the Red Force alongside crewmates such as Benn Beckman and Lucky Roux.
Appearance
Yasopp sports an unkempt beard and facial features similar to an older Usopp, though his nose is of normal length. Twelve years prior, he had curly hair held by a forehead band inscribed with "YASOPP," and later displayed a "YASO" forehead tattoo that vanished by the time of the Summit War. Currently, he wears dreadlocks, a hooded cape featuring a star pattern, and carries a rifle on his back.
Personality
Yasopp possesses a cheerful and lively personality, frequently enjoying lively banquets with his crewmates. Despite leaving his hometown, he harbors deep affection for his family, fondly telling stories about his son to a young Monkey D. Luffy. However, he is also burdened with guilt for abandoning his household and missing his wife's passing, making him hesitant to confront his son. Alongside his warm side, he displays a stern pirate discipline when enforcing consequences.
Abilities
As an exceptionally skilled marksman, Yasopp possesses extreme sniper accuracy with firearms, boasting that he never misses a target. His rifle shots possess enough destructive power to wreck and sink vessels from long distance. He is an advanced user of Observation Haki, capable of sharing visual perception across different dimensions with his son Usopp to coordinate simultaneous strikes, and has previously won high-stakes quick-draw duels.
Background
Formerly living in Syrup Village with his wife Banchina and infant son Usopp, Yasopp accepted Shanks' invitation to join his crew and take to the seas. During his stay in Fousha Village, he bonded with Monkey D. Luffy over tales of piracy and his family. He later deployed with his crew to stop the Marineford Summit War, destroyed Bartolomeo's ship following the events near Wano, and fought alongside his crew during the crisis on Elegia.
Relationships
Yasopp was personally recruited by Shanks, who recognized his exceptional marksmanship. He holds immense pride in his son, Usopp, yet feels ongoing remorse for leaving him and his late wife, Banchina. During a past duel with the former Marine sniper Daddy Masterson, Yasopp chose to spare Masterson's life after witnessing his devotion to his young daughter.
Trivia
Yasopp sails aboard the Red Force, the flagship of the Red Hair Pirates. His favorite food is seasonal fish. While depicted with solid dark hair in the original manga, early broadcasts of the television anime adaptation rendered his hair color inconsistently, featuring blond and brown shades before settling on his modern design.
