Overview
Kaku is a character from the manga series ONE PIECE. He initially serves as a master shipwright at Galley-La Company's Dock One in Water 7 while secretly operating as an undercover assassin for the World Government's covert intelligence agency, CP9. Known by the moniker "Mountain Wind" for his ability to leap effortlessly across the city, he later transitions into the elite CP-0 unit following a major conflict with the Straw Hat Pirates.
Appearance
Kaku is a young man with tanned skin, short blonde hair, rounded eyes, and a distinctive long nose with a squared-off tip. He typically wears headwear—a cap, which later becomes a dark hat—along with high-collared attire during missions, though he wears open-collared shirts or athletic jackets in casual settings. When transformed into his hybrid giraffe form, his body acquires a uniquely blocky and rectangular silhouette. As part of CP-0, he possesses a mask depicting a long-bearded elder face.
Personality
Despite his youthful age, Kaku speaks using archaic, elderly speech patterns. He presents an amiable and cheerful persona while displaying intense focus and detachment when carrying out covert assassination assignments. He exhibits a proud and occasionally stubborn streak—frequently defending his unusual transformed appearance when mocked—while demonstrating high adaptability and tactical intelligence in chaotic situations.
Abilities
Kaku consumed the Devil Fruit known as the Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Giraffe, granting him the power to transform into a full giraffe or a giraffe-human hybrid. He is a master of the Rokushiki martial arts—specializing in the leg-based slashing technique Rankyaku—and utilizes a Four-Sword Style by combining dual-wielded blades with powerful foot blades. His giraffe transformation enables unique techniques such as shrinking his neck to project long-range nose strikes, extending his extremities through spatial distortion, and forming a defense called Tekkai Mushikaku.
Background
Assigned to infiltrate Water 7 to retrieve confidential blueprints of an Ancient Weapon, Kaku spent five years building a reputation as one of the city's finest shipwrights. After assessing the Going Merry as unrepairable, he dropped his cover to apprehend Nico Robin and Franky. At Enies Lobby, he engaged in a fierce duel against Roronoa Zoro inside the Tower of Justice, ultimately suffering defeat. After a period of evading government pursuit due to political scapegoating, he returned to official duty as a member of CP-0.
Relationships
Kaku works closely alongside Rob Lucci, following him through both CP9 and CP0 missions. He maintains a lighthearted rivalry with Jabra, who frequently teases him about his Devil Fruit powers. During his battle with Roronoa Zoro, the two developed a mutual respect as formidable combatants. He also formed genuine working bonds with Iceburg and his fellow shipwrights during his five-year undercover operations in Water 7.
Trivia
Kaku's name and visual design directly reference his distinctly geometric and angular nose. Official profile details list his favorite foods as bananas and castella cake, a detail subtly mirrored when he reacts defensively during combat regarding his dietary preferences and animal nature.
