Overview

Ryokugyu, whose real name is Aramaki, is a Marine Headquarters Admiral in One Piece. Appointed to his position through the World Military Draft during the two-year timeskip alongside Issho, he serves as one of the Marine Corps' ultimate military powers. He is a Logia-type Devil Fruit user who wields the powers of the Mori Mori no Mi, allowing him to generate and manipulate vast plant life. Deeply admiring Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, he operates under the doctrine of Deadly Justice, holding uncompromising views on global order and authority.

Appearance

He is a tall, slender man with a highly muscular build. He features shoulder-length, wavy green hair, long eyelashes, and wears sunglasses. He leaves his upper body bare, draping a Marine coat over his shoulders, and displays a tattoo reading Shikawa Shinju running from his left shoulder down to his waist. He wears damaged leather pants decorated with a floral pattern, carries a short sword attached to his belt, and is frequently seen holding a cigarette in his mouth.

Personality

Aramaki exhibits a loose, highly independent personality, frequently taking action without authorization from his superiors. He possesses a distinct laugh and has abstained from eating for three years out of sheer laziness, though he remains open to being fed by women. He firmly supports the World Government's rigid hierarchy, viewing discrimination and global inequality as necessary components of social stability. While utterly ruthless toward pirates and non-member territories, he maintains a friendly, casual demeanor around fellow Marines, avoiding unnecessary internal strife and recognizing when to strategically withdraw from overwhelming opponents.

Abilities

He consumed the Logia-type Mori Mori no Mi, becoming a Forest Human capable of creating and controlling plant life to reshape whole landscapes into dense forests. He can extend his limbs into sharp roots that impale enemies, rapidly absorbing their nutrients until they are completely dehydrated. Additionally, he can sprout a dandelion-like flower on his back that spins to grant him flight, and he utilizes durable vegetation to entangle and immobilize strong foes. He is also proficient in both Armament Haki and Observation Haki.

Background

Prior to joining the Marines, Aramaki served as a police officer in the Taya Kingdom located in the South Blue. During the two-year timeskip following the Summit War, he was drafted directly into the rank of Marine Headquarters Admiral alongside Issho through the World Military Draft. He was deployed to Mary Geoise during the Reverie to manage security and contend with the Revolutionary Army. Driven by a desire to gain recognition from Sakazuki, he later traveled independently to Wano Country after the fall of Kaidou, clashing with local defenders before choosing to retreat when confronted by Shanks' formidable Haki.

Relationships

Aramaki deeply admires Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, fully aligning with his resolute stance on justice and seeking his approval, though his habit of taking unauthorized initiative often causes headaches for his superior. He shares a surprisingly casual and friendly rapport with his fellow Admiral Issho, despite their starkly contrasting views on civilians and governance, even refusing to engage him in combat when instructed to do so. In Wano, he targeted Monkey D. Luffy to secure a victory for the Marines, but withdrew after sensing the immense power of Shanks.

Trivia

His prominent tattoo reading Shikawa Shinju was inked following a tragic past incident involving a woman. His physical design was modeled after the late Japanese actor Yoshio Harada. Despite refusing to eat regular food, he enjoys aged sake, and author commentary assigned him the imaginary real-world profession of a radio personality.
