Trebol

Overview

Trebol is a fictional character in the manga and anime series One Piece. He is one of the top three executives of the Donquixote Pirates, holding the Club seat and leading the specialized Trebol Army. Serving as a advisor and strategist for Donquixote Doflamingo, he takes charge of protecting the special executive Sugar and overseeing the underground operations in Dressrosa.

Appearance

Trebol has an unkempt face with stubble, wears small sunglasses, and carries shackles around his ankles. He is constantly seen with a runny nose and carries a staff. Although he appears to be a massive, hunched, obese man, this bulky exterior is merely a thick shell of slime concealing his extremely thin and gaunt real body inside.

Personality

Trebol has an invasive, persistent nature, often invading personal space while insisting on getting answers. He is known for a distinctive laugh and catchphrase. He exhibits cruel behavior toward captives and displays high arrogance regarding his faction's supremacy. Despite his position, he is short-tempered and easily affected by taunts, often losing his usual speech quirks when angered.

Abilities

Having eaten the Paramecia-type Beta Beta no Mi, Trebol generates and controls a highly sticky, flammable mucus. He can use this slime to bind enemies, hurl objects, and alter his mobility. He carries a staff fitted with a lighter mechanism at its tip to ignite his slime for explosive attacks. By cloaking his true body in slime, he causes physical attacks to miss his physical form. He can also use Armament and Observation Haki.

Background

Decades ago, Trebol led his own group before recognizing the royal potential in a young Doflamingo. He provided Doflamingo with the Ito Ito no Mi and a firearm, helping mold him into a leader of evil while stepping back into an advisory role. He helped overthrow Dressrosa a decade later. During the Dressrosa conflict, he fought alongside Doflamingo against Luffy and Law, eventually attempting a fiery self-destruction before being defeated and arrested.

Relationships

Trebol was instrumental in grooming Donquixote Doflamingo into a ruthless leader, serving as his advisor and devoted follower. He ranks equally with fellow top executives Vergo, Pica, and Diamante. Within the crew, he acts as the personal guardian of Sugar. During the Dressrosa arc, he clashes with Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar Law, while also failing to prevent Usopp from rendering Sugar unconscious.

Trivia

His codename, Trebol, corresponds to the suit of clubs in Spanish. While the exact nature of his Devil Fruit was visually confusing during the story due to how his body absorbed attacks, official media such as the game One Piece: Burning Blood confirms it as a Paramecia-type ability.
