Sasaki

Overview

Sasaki, known by the epithet "Sasaki of the Overflowing Drink," is a character in the series ONE PIECE. He is a prominent member of the Tobiroppo, an elite group composed of the six strongest Shinuchi within the Beasts Pirates led by the Emperor Kaido. Formerly the captain of his own independent pirate crew, Sasaki joined Kaido's organization with fierce ambition, actively seeking an opportunity to challenge for the rank of All-Star. During the raid on Onigashima in Wano Country, he takes command of the Armored Division to defend the stronghold against enemies and traitors.

Appearance

Standing at a massive height of 318 centimeters with a heavy muscular build, Sasaki is a Bluespine unicornfish Fish-man. He has upturned eyes and sharp teeth, with his lower canine teeth remaining visible even when his mouth is closed. He features long, wild yellowish-green hair and wears a student-style cap from which two golden horns protrude. His body features tattoos across both shoulders, an earring in his ear similar to Who's-Who's, and an outfit consisting of an overcoat cape paired with geta sandals.

Personality

Having previously commanded his own pirate fleet, Sasaki is driven by strong ambition and constantly seeks promotion to the status of All-Star, regarding potential rivals as unnecessary obstacles. He is straightforward and blunt, openly expressing his desires directly to Kaido without deceit. Toward individuals he considers friends, he displays a relaxed and friendly demeanor, but he exhibits uncompromising severity against anyone who betrays his trust. In battle, he demonstrates immense nerve and decisiveness, willing to execute reckless and self-sacrificing techniques to defeat formidable opponents.

Abilities

Sasaki possesses the power of the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Triceratops, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that enables him to transform into a massive Triceratops or a hybrid form. This grants him incredible physical endurance, crushing weight, and rapid recovery speed. In his hybrid state, he can rapidly spin his armored neck frill like a rotor with his Heliceratops technique, allowing him to fly and deliver accelerated charging attacks such as Tamaceratops and his ultimate aerial dive, Magnumceratops. In addition to his Devil Fruit powers and mastery over Armament and Observation Haki, he wields the Karakuri Rasento, a mechanical sword whose edge spins continuously like a chainsaw.

Background

Originally navigating the seas as the captain of the Sasaki Pirates, Sasaki eventually joined the Beasts Pirates and earned a spot among the Tobiroppo. During the fire festival raid on Onigashima, he was tasked by the All-Star King to locate Kaido's missing child, Yamato, in exchange for a chance to challenge for an All-Star position. While searching, he encountered Kyoshiro, whom he trusted as a close friend, only to be deceived and bound to a sacred tree with Sea-Prism Stone chains. After being freed when the tree collapsed during Big Mom's attack, an enraged Sasaki led his Armored Division into battle. He engaged Franky in combat, ultimately destroying the Franky Shogun mech with a reckless diving attack, but was defeated when Franky targeted his unarmored belly with a laser beam.

Relationships

Sasaki respects Kaido, the Governor-General of the Beasts Pirates, and openly prefers drinking directly with him over lesser subordinates. While obeying orders from the All-Star King, Sasaki actively covets an All-Star position for himself. He previously regarded Kyoshiro as a cherished drinking companion and close friend, making Kyoshiro's deceit and ambush a source of immense anger. Among his fellow Tobiroppo members—such as X Drake, Page One, and Ulti—he maintains a competitive and unsympathetic attitude. During the battle of Onigashima, he fought a fierce duel against Franky of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Trivia

Sasaki's name is believed to originate from the card game "44A" (pronounced Sasaki). In early development concepts for the character, he was tentatively named "Pharaoh" and possessed a noticeably younger physical design. His bounty stands at 472,000,000 Belly.
