Overview
Kyros is a central character in the Dressrosa Arc of the manga and anime series ONE PIECE. He is the former army commander of the Riku Royal Army in the Kingdom of Dressrosa and a legendary gladiator who achieved an unprecedented, undefeated record of 3,000 victories at the Corrida Colosseum. Beneath his reputation as a warrior, he is the husband of Princess Scarlett and the father of Rebecca. After being transformed into a one-legged toy soldier known as the Thunder Soldier during Doflamingo's coup, his existence was erased from public memory, yet he fought tirelessly to reclaim his family and kingdom.
Appearance
Kyros is a tall, heavily muscular man with long black hair, facial hair, veiny arms, and thick thighs. He wears a prominent red cape over his back. He lacks his left leg, having amputated it himself to escape seastone shackles during Doflamingo's takeover. Under the influence of Sugar's Devil Fruit ability, his physical form was transformed into a one-legged toy soldier for ten years. When fighting, he carries a single double-edged broadsword and does not utilize a shield.
Personality
Having grown up in the slums, Kyros was initially aggressive and violent, but under the patient guidance of King Riku Dold III, his innate gentleness and deep sense of responsibility came to the forefront. Deeply remorseful for a revenge killing in his youth, he harbors a severe self-deprecating streak, feeling his hands are bloodstained and hesitating even to hold his own daughter. Though inclined toward reckless self-sacrifice to protect those he loves, he also demonstrates sharp strategic intelligence by utilizing his allies' unique traits effectively.
Abilities
Kyros is a pure swordsman who relies on physical training and battle talent rather than Devil Fruit abilities. Fighting without a shield, he wields a single double-edged sword, demonstrating enough strength to defeat Giants on land and win underwater battles against Fish-men. Even with only one leg, he easily defeated Buffalo and overcame the supreme officer Diamante despite unfair combat conditions. His signature move is Trueno Bastard, a jumping overhead strike that destroys his opponent's weapon while bisecting them.
Background
After committing a revenge killing in the slums, Kyros was captured but offered freedom by King Riku Dold III if he could win 100 arena matches. He achieved this in four months and remained voluntarily, eventually reaching 3,000 wins. Appointed commander, he fell in love with Princess Scarlett; they faked her death to live quietly with their daughter, Rebecca. When Doflamingo staged a coup, Kyros cut off his own leg to escape capture but was turned into a toy soldier by Sugar, wiping everyone's memories of him. In toy form, he witnessed Scarlett's death and raised Rebecca in secret. Rejoining the fight alongside the Straw Hat Pirates, he regained his human body, defeated Diamante, and reunited with Rebecca.
Relationships
Kyros deeply loved his wife Scarlett, and after her death, he devoted himself to protecting their daughter Rebecca, teaching her counter-focused swordplay for defense. He feels profound gratitude toward his father-in-law, King Riku Dold III, and maintains a protective bond with his sister-in-law, Viola. Donquixote Doflamingo, Diamante, and Sugar are his sworn enemies who ruined his family and home. He formed a strong alliance with Monkey D. Luffy, Usopp, the Straw Hat Pirates, and the Tontatta tribe to end Doflamingo's rule.
Trivia
During his nine years of undefeated battle in the Corrida Colosseum, the only wound Kyros ever received in the arena was inflicted during a match against King Riku Dold III, who had entered the ring in disguise.
