Overview
Kaidou is a character from the manga series ONE PIECE. As the Governor-General of the Beast Pirates, he was long feared as one of the Four Emperors who ruled the New World. Originating as an apprentice in the Rocks Pirates, he later forged an alliance with Kurozumi Orochi to take absolute control over Wano Country. Renowned as the "Strongest Creature in the World," Kaidou possesses unmatched combat power and formidable leadership, serving as a master villain throughout the New World sagas.
Appearance
Kaidou is a massive man standing over seven meters tall with a heavily muscular build. He features long, black disheveled hair reaching his waist, a jagged beard, long catfish-like whiskers, prominent brow ridges with no eyebrows, and a pair of huge horns. His left upper body is marked by a red tattoo resembling scales and a skull, while his right lower abdomen bears a large cross-shaped scar. His attire consists of a purple kimono under a fur cape, bound by a massive rope belt, dark trousers, boots, and spiked bracers on both wrists.
Personality
Kaidou lives by a strict meritocratic ideology where violence and war dictate human worth. Due to his functional immortality, he developed a habit of self-harm and seeking suicide, desiring a grand death above all. He is a heavy drinker whose mood swings wildly when intoxicated. Despite his brutal reputation, he exhibits a serious, honorable warrior side—respecting formidable opponents, valuing his subordinates' achievements, and despising dishonorable wins. He holds a cynical view of humanity while expecting total strength from those around him.
Abilities
Kaidou wields the power of the Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, allowing him to transform into a colossal eastern dragon. He commands high-level Haoshoku, Busoshoku, and Kenbunshoku Haki. Coupled with his extraordinary natural durability and strength, he fights using an unranked, massive spiked kanabo named Hassaikai to execute devastating strikes.
Background
Hailing from the Vodka Kingdom on the Grand Line, Kaidou was drafted into military service at a young age before escaping and turning to piracy. He joined the legendary Rocks Pirates as an apprentice and later formed the Beast Pirates after Rocks fell. Partnering with Kurozumi Orochi, he invaded Wano Country, executed its heroic daimyo Kozuki Oden after a fierce duel, and transformed the isolated nation into a weapon manufacturing stronghold.
Relationships
Kaidou maintains a hostile, oppressive dynamic with his child Yamato, detesting Yamato's obsession with Kozuki Oden. He shares a complex, decades-long history with Charlotte Linlin, his former crewmate from the Rocks Pirates. In Wano, he maintained a strategic partnership with Kurozumi Orochi, while holding deep respect and trust for his top officers, including King and Jack.
Trivia
Kaidou's visual design heavily incorporates motifs of Japanese oni and eastern dragons. His favorite foods are alcohol and fish skin, whereas he strongly dislikes tofu. He is famous for his signature laugh, which sounds like "Worororo."
