Overview

Wyper, known by the epithet "Berserker," is a prominent leader and warrior of the Shandia tribe in the anime and manga series One Piece. As a direct descendant of the legendary warrior Kalgara, he carries the centuries-old burden of his ancestors, driving him to lead guerrilla forces against God Enel to reclaim Upper Yard, the lost homeland of his people. Known for his reckless battle tactics and unyielding resolve, he plays a central role during the Skypiea arc. Following the downfall of Enel, he reconciles with the people of Skypiea and eventually serves as a member of God's Guard.

Appearance

Wyper is a dark-skinned warrior featuring small white wings on his back. Initially sporting a mohawk with braided sections, his black hair grows into a long style after two years. He goes topless, exposing a muscular abdomen, and bears facial and body markings alongside ear jewelry. His right arm is wrapped in tight bandages. On his feet, he wears specialized wave-skates known as "Shooter." Earlier in his battles, he also carried a shield on his arm before it was destroyed.

Personality

True to his title of "Berserker," Wyper possesses a volatile and aggressive temperament. He exhibits extreme hostility towards trespassers, often opting to eliminate them immediately rather than engage in dialogue. Beneath his fierce exterior lies an unwavering dedication to his tribe and an intense reverence for his ancestors, whom he views as guardian deities. His ruthless demeanor stems entirely from his single-minded obsession with reclaiming his homeland. Though demanding and uncompromising toward his comrades, expecting them to prepare for sacrifice, he deeply cares for his fellow Shandia and will risk his life to shield them from danger.

Abilities

Wyper wields the "Burn Bazooka," a heavy weapon capable of standard shelling or releasing massive blue-white firestorms by igniting gas from stored Wind Dials. His specialized skates, known as "Shooter," grant him exceptional mobility on cloud paths and enable devastating mid-air maneuvers. These skates incorporate Seastone, allowing him to nullify Devil Fruit powers upon physical contact. Hidden beneath his right arm's bandages is the "Reject Dial," an ultimate weapon unleashing ten times the kinetic force of an Impact Dial. Though capable of inflicting fatal damage on targets, its violent recoil imposes severe, potentially self-destructive trauma on his body.

Background

Four hundred years ago, the Shandia tribe's home on the island of Jaya was swept into the sky by the Knock Up Stream. Expelled from their holy land by the inhabitants of Skypiea, the tribe lived in secret, maintaining a long-standing war to regain Upper Yard. Learning of his ancestor Kalgara's unfulfilled promise to ring the Golden Bell for Montblanc Noland, Wyper dedicated his life to this struggle. As leader of the Shandia warriors during God Enel's reign, he launched a fierce assault on the usurper's forces. After enduring brutal battles alongside the Straw Hat Pirates, he realized Luffy shared the same desire to prove the City of Gold's existence and entrusted him with ringing the bell, bringing peace to the sky.

Relationships

Wyper reveres his ancestor Kalgara, fighting to honor Kalgara's historical bond with Montblanc Noland. He harbors intense hatred toward God Enel, viewing him as a ruthless tyrant, and directly defeated Enel's priest Shura. His relationship with the former God Gan Fall was strained due to centuries of territorial war. Initially hostile toward Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro as trespassers, Wyper changed his perspective after Nico Robin revealed that Noland's descendant was searching for the gold. He ultimately trusted Luffy to ring the Golden Bell. Following the crisis, Tony Tony Chopper treated his critical injuries.

Trivia

Wyper ranked 88th in the worldwide character popularity poll WT100. His favorite food is barbecue. His explosive reaction to Gan Fall mentioning pumpkin juice stems from the fact that pumpkins represent a cherished cultural legacy introduced to his tribe by Montblanc Noland four hundred years earlier. Following the unification of Skypiea and the Shandia after Enel's defeat, he joined the newly formed God's Guard, altering his appearance by letting his hair grow long.
