Overview
Charlotte Linlin, widely known as Big Mom, is the captain of the Big Mom Pirates and a former member of the Four Emperors ruling the New World in ONE PIECE. Serving as the queen of Totto Land, she was previously affiliated with the legendary Rocks Pirates and stands as the sole female among the Four Emperors. Recognized by the World Government as a born monster, she commands immense power and an iron-fisted realm driven by a ravenous love for sweets.
Appearance
Standing nearly nine meters tall, Charlotte Linlin possesses a massive frame featuring curly pink hair, lipstick, a prominent nose, and strong teeth. She wears a polka-dot bandana underneath her living bicorne hat Napoleon, a pink polka-dot dress, a white and yellow cape, and bears a red heart tattoo on her left arm. In her youth during her twenties and thirties, she exhibited a slender, attractive build with a folded hat and striped shirt, though her appearance altered over decades of childbirth and diet.
Personality
Charlotte Linlin is an absolute autocrat who enforces a strict rule of killing anyone who tries to leave her service or declines her demands. Her violent cravings for sweets can drive her into uncontrollable rampages that destroy nations. Operating on twisted logic where she views her desires as absolute, she inflicts brutal retaliation on disobedience. However, she retains a deep trauma concerning her childhood upbringing under Mother Carmel and occasionally displays a gentle maternal side toward young children under ten.
Abilities
Having eaten the Paramecia-type Soul-Soul Fruit (Soru Soru no Mi), Charlotte Linlin can extract lifespans from those who fear death and infuse those souls into objects or nature to create familiars called Homies. She commands high-grade Homies created directly from her own soul: the fiery Prometheus, the thunderclouds Zeus and Hera, and the living hat-sword Napoleon. She also wields conqueror's, arms, and observation Haki, combining them with devastating swordsmanship inherited from Elbaf giants.
Background
Abandoned by her parents at age five due to her destructive strength, Linlin was taken in by Mother Carmel at the Lamb's House on Elbaf. Following Carmel's sudden disappearance, she met Streusen and embarked on a life of piracy. She served aboard the Rocks Pirates before eventually founding the Big Mom Pirates, building the kingdom of Totto Land in the New World and ascending to the status of one of the Four Emperors.
Relationships
Charlotte Linlin is the head of a massive family consisting of 43 husbands, 46 sons, and 39 daughters. She utilizes her children, including Charlotte Katakuri and Charlotte Perospero, as combat officers and pawns in political marriages, while discarding her husbands immediately after childbirth. She shares a long-standing past with Kaidou from their time in the Rocks Pirates, later forging an alliance with him. Her deepest emotional reverence remains dedicated to her childhood guardian, Mother Carmel.
Trivia
The name Charlotte stems from a noble name meaning divine love in Latin, while the epithet Big Mom originates from children's slang describing a mother's wrath. Her character design draws inspiration from the witch in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. Her official birthday of February 15 corresponds to Candy Day in Japan.
