Overview
A character from the manga and anime series ONE PIECE, "Calico" Yorki was the original captain of the Rumbar Pirates, the crew to which Brook once belonged. Originating from the West Blue, he was an open-hearted and energetic leader who guided his companions through their voyages with a profound passion for music.
Appearance
Yorki has blonde hair, which is depicted as yellowish-green in the animated adaptation. He features distinct facial tattoos located beneath his right eye and on his chin, shaped like a mirrored uppercase letter F.
Personality
Yorki was a high-spirited and warmhearted individual with an intense devotion to music. When recruiting members for his pirate crew, his sole requirement was that candidate members had to genuinely love music. He strongly disliked internal discord, establishing a policy of punishing both parties equally whenever a fight broke out among his crewmates to maintain harmony aboard the ship.
Abilities
As the captain of the Rumbar Pirates, Yorki possessed the leadership capabilities required to command a pirate crew. Furthermore, he was an active musician himself, skilled in musical performance.
Background
While sailing from the West Blue toward the Grand Line, Yorki befriended a young island whale named Laboon who followed their vessel. Before entering the perilous sea, he left Laboon at Twin Cape under a promise to return, but contracted an unknown incurable disease during their voyage. To protect the uninfected crew members, Yorki chose to depart with the sick crew into the Calm Belt, entrusting the leadership of the Rumbar Pirates to Brook. His subsequent fate remains unknown.
Relationships
Yorki shared a deep bond of trust with Brook, whom he appointed to serve as the acting captain upon his departure from the crew. He was also profoundly attached to the island whale Laboon; when illness prevented him from fulfilling his promise to meet Laboon again, he wept bitterly over his inability to keep their vow. Additionally, he entrusted Laboon to the care of Crocus at Twin Cape.
Trivia
His moniker and character concept were inspired by John Rackham, an 18th-century Caribbean pirate known as "Calico Jack" due to his preference for calico clothing. In addition, fans once speculated that a masked figure drinking with Crocus on the cover of chapter 631 of the manga might be a surviving Yorki, though this theory was later officially disproven.
