Overview
Bepo is a character from the manga series One Piece. He serves as the navigator and practical second-in-command for the Heart Pirates under the leadership of Trafalgar Law. As a polar bear Mink originating from the island of Zou, he acts as a key supporter of the crew during their voyages.
Appearance
Bepo is a polar bear Mink with thick white fur. While other members of the Heart Pirates wear white jumpsuits, Bepo wears a distinctive bright orange jumpsuit. In his normal male state, his eyes appear as small black dots. When temporarily transformed into a female by Doc Q's ability, he gains a short bob hairstyle and large, expressive eyes. Upon transforming into his Sulong form, his body expands into a massive size.
Personality
Bepo is fiercely loyal to his captain, Trafalgar Law, and habitually responds to orders with energetic naval affirmations. Despite his physical strength and martial skills, he is exceptionally soft-hearted and sensitive. Whenever he is reprimanded, intimidated, or questioned by others, he immediately loses confidence and apologizes. He also displays an interest in female bears.
Abilities
Bepo combines high physical strength with agile, kung-fu-style martial arts focusing on kicks. He possesses exceptional hearing, enabling him to detect distant enemy positions and underwater sounds. As the navigator of the submarine Polar Tang, he can guide the crew through treacherous waters like the Calm Belt and New World, and is capable of drawing nautical charts. By consuming a special medicine provided by Tony Tony Chopper, he can temporarily trigger his Sulong transformation without a full moon, granting him immense power.
Background
Born in the Mokomo Dukedom on Zou, Bepo left home at a young age to search for his older brother Zepo, but accidentally boarded a ship bound for the North Blue and landed on Swallow Island. After being saved from bullies by Trafalgar Law, he began living alongside Law, Penguin, and Shachi under the care of the inventor Volf. He learned navigation in hopes of returning to Zou, eventually forming the Heart Pirates with Law. He has supported his captain through numerous high-stakes battles across the Grand Line and New World.
Relationships
Bepo shares a deep bond of trust with his captain, Trafalgar Law, spanning over a decade, often carrying Law's sword Kikoku or serving as a comfortable pillow. He maintains a close brotherhood with Shachi and Penguin, with whom he grew up. He is also the younger brother of Zepo.
Trivia
Because of his animal appearance, the World Government mistakes Bepo for a simple crew pet, assigning him an exceptionally low bounty of 500 Berries, which later increases slightly to 1500 Berries. In the movie ONE PIECE FILM RED, he appears as an enthusiastic fan of Uta, dressed in flashy festive decorations.
