Overview

Miss Doublefinger, whose real name is Zala, is a major antagonist in ONE PIECE. Operating as the top female Officer Agent within the secret criminal organization Baroque Works, she served as the partner to Mr. 1 under the leadership of Sir Crocodile. In public, she concealed her true identity by adopting the alias Paula, acting as the friendly proprietor of Spider's Cafe in the Alabasta Kingdom. Possessing the powers of the Paramecia-type Devil Fruit known as the Spike-Spike Fruit (Toge Toge no Mi), she combines her deceptive cover with lethal combat efficiency as a professional assassin.

Appearance

Standing 187 centimeters tall, she is characterized by her permed, medium-length blue hair and full, voluptuous lips. When disguising herself as a tavern owner, she ties her hair back, wearing a bandana cap, black-rimmed glasses, a tank top, and jeans. Upon revealing her true identity, she removes her eyewear and facial adornments, changing into a revealing bondage-style outfit designed with a spiderweb pattern. She also exhibits a distinctive walking style, heavily swaying her hips with every step she takes.

Personality

In her persona as a tavern keeper, she comes across as warm, cheerful, and attentive, remembering the specific tea preferences of the agents who frequent her establishment. Beneath this facade, however, lies a cold and calculating professional killer who maintains absolute composure during missions. She exhibited exceptional discretion by keeping her identity hidden from fellow agents for a long time. Despite her ruthless nature in combat, she retains a sensible side, even expressing sympathetic bewilderment and pity when Nami was bewildered by the bizarre features of her new weapon during their duel.

Abilities

She consumed the Paramecia-type Spike-Spike Fruit (Toge Toge no Mi), granting her the ability to grow sharp, rock-piercing spikes from any part of her body. Her arsenal includes Double Stinger, turning her hands into spikes for rapid stabs, and Stinger Hedgehog, where she curls up to extend spikes in all directions, dropping from above or rolling along the ground. She can also sprout spikes beneath her feet with Stinger Step and turn her entire head into a spinning mass of spikes with Sea Urchin Stinger. Furthermore, through Toge Toge Doping, she pierces her own muscles to dramatically increase her physical strength, enabling heavy strikes like Stinger Flail that crush stone structures.

Background

Operating a cafe in the Alabasta desert under the name Paula, she secretly served as the top female agent of Baroque Works. Taking part in Sir Crocodile's Operation Utopia to seize the kingdom, she attempted to eliminate Princess Nefertari Vivi in Alubarna, but was drawn into battle against Nami due to a decoy tactic. Although initially dominating the fight, she was eventually defeated by Nami's Tornado Tempo and subsequently taken into custody by Marine Captain Smoker's forces. While incarcerated, she overpowered female prisoners despite wearing Seastone cuffs, and was eventually freed during a breakout effort led by Miss Goldenweek. Reverting to her ideal persona as a tavern keeper via Colors Trap, she renovated an abandoned building into the NEW Spider's Cafe to start a fresh life with her former comrades.

Relationships

She operated directly under the leader of Baroque Works, Sir Crocodile (Mr. 0), receiving directives through Miss All Sunday. Within the organization, she partnered with Mr. 1 (Daz Bonez) as part of the agency's primary officer pair. She maintained familiar ties with fellow agents such as Mr. 4, Miss Merry Christmas, and Miss Goldenweek, who regularly visited her establishment; Miss Goldenweek later orchestrated her rescue from prison and helped her establish their new business. During the Alabasta conflict, her primary target was Princess Nefertari Vivi, which led to her duel against Nami, whom she viewed with a mixture of professional lethality and occasional exasperated pity.

Trivia

Her codename Doublefinger is derived from holding up two index fingers to represent the date January 1st (New Year's Day), following the agency's naming convention for female agents based on holidays or special days. Interestingly, while her partner Mr. 1 was assigned the actual birthday of January 1st, her own official birthday is set for July 30th. In the cover story following her escape, she is seen at the counter of the newly opened NEW Spider's Cafe having her portrait sketched by Miss Goldenweek, who fulfilled her own dream of becoming a painter.
