Overview

Captain Kuro, known by the epithet "Kuro of a Hundred Plans," is a pirate from the manga series ONE PIECE. Originally the leader of the Black Cat Pirates, he is a cunning strategist who abandoned his life of piracy to escape relentless pursuit by Marines and bounty hunters. Fake-executing a body double to erase his identity, he assumed the moniker "Kurahadol" and spent three years working as a devoted butler in Syrup Village to legally acquire a wealthy family's inheritance.

Appearance

Captain Kuro is a tall man with slicked-back black hair and round spectacles. As the butler Kurahadol, he wears a sharp black suit. His weapons of choice are the "Cat Claws," specialized gloves fitted with long blades attached to the tip of each finger. Due to the danger of slicing his own face while wearing them, he maintains a distinctive physical habit of pushing up his slipping glasses using his wrist or the heel of his palm.

Personality

Captain Kuro is a highly intelligent yet deeply ruthless and self-centered individual. He views his subordinates purely as disposable pawns, showing zero hesitation in executing his own crew to eliminate loose ends. While he claims to desire a quiet, comfortable existence away from the chaotic life of a pirate, his nature remains that of a cruel marauder whose hubris leads him to despise serving others.

Abilities

Despite not possessing Devil Fruit powers, Captain Kuro moves at incredible speeds, covering 100 meters in around four seconds. He utilizes an assassin-like silent movement technique called "Nuki Ashi" to approach targets undetected. His custom weapon, the "Cat Claws," inflicts slashes powerful enough to cut stone. His ultimate technique, "Shakushi," involves sprinting at invisible speeds while indiscriminately slicing everything in the vicinity with his claws. However, because his dynamic vision cannot keep up with this maximum speed, Kuro cannot control whom or what he slashes, making it a double-edged attack that strikes friends and foes alike, preceded by a vulnerable wind-up stance.

Background

Tired of being hunted, Kuro engineered his own fake death by having his hypnotist officer, Jango, brainwash a decoy named Nugire Yainu into taking his place at an execution led by Marine officer Morgan. Free from his past, Kuro moved to Syrup Village under the alias Kurahadol, spending three years serving the orphaned heiress Kaya to secure a legal claim to her fortune. His plot to assassinate her and stage it as an accident was exposed by Usopp and Monkey D. Luffy. Following a fierce battle, Kuro was defeated by Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Kane and cast out of the village alongside his remaining crew.

Relationships

Jango served as Kuro's second-in-command, tasked with hypnotizing both the decoy for Kuro's execution and later Kaya for the inheritance plot. Kuro feigned devotion to Kaya, the wealthy heiress of Syrup Village, while secretly planning her murder. His scheme brought him into direct conflict with Usopp, who sought to protect Kaya, and Monkey D. Luffy, who rejected Kuro's dishonorable view of piracy and ultimately brought about his defeat.

Trivia

In the manga's SBS column, creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed details regarding the unique pattern featured on Kuro's butler attire. Oda also noted that similarities pointed out between Kuro's design and certain real-world visual caricatures were entirely coincidental, as he was unaware of the resemblance until readers brought it to his attention.
