Sentoumaru

Overview

Sentoumaru is a character in the manga and anime series ONE PIECE. He serves as the Captain of the Marine Headquarters Science Unit and acts as the personal bodyguard for the scientist Dr. Vegapunk. Originally working alongside the Marines, he officially enlisted during the two-year timeskip and attained an officer-equivalent rank. Recognized for commanding Pacifista cyborgs in battle, he frequently boasts of having both the tightest defense and the most tight-lipped nature in the world.

Appearance

Sentoumaru has a black bob cut and a visual appearance reminiscent of Kintarou. He wears a red apron featuring Dr. Vegapunk's symbol mark at its center and has a stitched scar running from the outer corner of his left eye to the corner of his mouth. He carries a large broadaxe on his back. Following the two-year timeskip, he drapes a standard Marine coat over his shoulders.

Personality

Sentoumaru is dedicated to his duty as a bodyguard and Marine, taking great pride in his defensive prowess. Although he claims to be the most tight-lipped man in the world, he is inadvertently talkative, frequently divulging confidential plans to enemies while insisting he merely volunteered the information. He acts as a grounded individual who values personal loyalty to his benefactor over rigid adherence to Marine doctrine, willing to risk his position for those he owes.

Abilities

Sentoumaru is a non-Devil Fruit user who fights using heavy martial arts strikes and a large broadaxe. He possesses advanced mastery of Armament and Observation Haki. By projecting Armament Haki from his palms, he can repel incoming forces without making direct physical contact, demonstrated in his signature sumo palm-thrust technique, Ashigara Dokkoi. In addition to physical combat, he holds high command authority over the Pacifista and Seraphim units, allowing him to direct cyborg forces on the battlefield.

Background

As a child on Kintoki Mountain, Sentoumaru was cast out from his village due to his wild behavior and became the mountain's leader by defeating bears in sumo matches. Impressed by his strength, Dr. Vegapunk hired him as a bodyguard, leading Sentoumaru to train under Borsalino (Kizaru). He commanded Pacifista units at Sabaody Archipelago and Marineford. During the Egghead arc, he chose to align with the Straw Hat Pirates to protect Vegapunk from CP-0, defying the World Government out of gratitude to his savior.

Relationships

Dr. Vegapunk is Sentoumaru's primary benefactor to whom he holds absolute loyalty. He regards Admiral Borsalino (Kizaru) as his martial arts master and superior, affectionately addressing him as Ojiki (Uncle). He shares a personal acquaintance with Bartholomew Kuma and Jewelry Bonney. Though initially an enemy to Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, Sentoumaru respects Luffy's strength and eventually forms a temporary alliance with them on Egghead Island.

Trivia

Sentoumaru's name uses the kanji for peach (桃) rather than fight (闘), blending motifs of Momotaro with his Kintarou-inspired design. His favorite foods are onigiri and baked sweet potatoes, while his least favorite is bear stew. In the anime adaptation, despite being a man in his thirties, he is voiced by female voice actress Kazue Ikura.
