Aladdin

Overview

Aladdin is a goatsbeard brotula merman from the manga series One Piece. He serves as both the ship's doctor and the first mate of the Sun Pirates. Originally a military officer of the Ryugu Kingdom, he was later enslaved by the Celestial Dragons before being freed during Fisher Tiger's raid on Mary Geoise. Among a crew of hot-headed pirates, he stands out as one of the most calm and rational members, providing strong support first to Fisher Tiger and later to the second captain, Jinbe.

Appearance

Aladdin is a large, muscular goatsbeard brotula merman with a prominent goatee and long hair tied back into a ponytail. He possesses distinctively forked eyebrows and sharp teeth. On his chest, he bears the sun emblem tattoo of the Sun Pirates, which conceals his former slave mark from the Celestial Dragons. In combat, he wields a large trident.

Personality

Despite belonging to a crew of hot-blooded pirates, Aladdin is one of the most level-headed and sensible individuals. Having endured trauma as a slave, he remains compassionate, advising patience regarding the young former slave Koala's deep-seated emotional wounds. Even when Donquixote Mjosgard, a member of the hated Celestial Dragons, arrived injured on Fish-Man Island, Aladdin volunteered to treat him despite the surrounding hostility, proving his deep moral standard and ability to look beyond personal resentment.

Abilities

As a former military officer, Aladdin possesses formidable physical capabilities and extensive combat experience. Weapon-wise, he wields a trident and can utilize both Fish-Man Jujutsu and Fish-Man Karate. He can execute techniques such as Kairyu Ipponzeoi to manipulate ocean currents to blow away heavy opponents or crush ships, as well as Uchimizu and the powerful strikes of Yonsenmaigawara Seiken. Additionally, he is a highly skilled ship doctor capable of providing critical medical care.

Background

Formerly a soldier of the Ryugu Kingdom, Aladdin was captured and held as a slave by the Celestial Dragons in Mary Geoise until Fisher Tiger liberated him. He joined the newly formed Sun Pirates as their doctor, standing by Tiger until his death. Aladdin remained with the crew under Jinbe's leadership, eventually becoming vice-captain. As part of a political alliance with the Big Mom Pirates, he married Charlotte Praline. During the Whole Cake Island arc, he supported Jinbe's desire to join Monkey D. Luffy and led the crew to act as a rearguard, protecting the Thousand Sunny from Big Mom's fleet.

Relationships

Aladdin is married to Charlotte Praline, who dotes on him obsessively and pledged her loyalty to him over her own mother, Charlotte Linlin. He viewed his first captain, Fisher Tiger, as a great benefactor for freeing him from slavery. He shares an exceptionally close bond of mutual trust with Jinbe, unconditionally supporting his choice to join Monkey D. Luffy. He showed deep sympathy toward Koala during her time with the crew and personally treated Donquixote Mjosgard despite the latter's status as a Celestial Dragon.

Trivia

Aladdin's name and visual design evoke the genie from traditional Aladdin folklore, while his history with slave liberation may also reference the historical figure Saladin. In the animated adaptation, his voice actor Takashi Nagasako also provides the voice for Diamond Jozu of the Whitebeard Pirates.
