Overview

Boa Hancock is a prominent pirate in the manga series ONE PIECE, serving as the reigning empress of the women-only nation of Amazon Lily and captain of the Kuja Pirates. Formerly the sole female member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, she is widely renowned throughout the world for her supreme beauty, holding distinguished titles such as the Pirate Empress and the Snake Princess. Standing as a formidable figure on the seas, she commands both total loyalty from her subjects and immense respect across the ocean.

Appearance

Boa Hancock stands 191 centimeters tall with a ten-head-tall proportion, featuring long glossy black hair styled in a hime cut and deep blue eyes. She has a voluminous bust and long legs. Her attire consists of snake-shaped earrings, a red cropped long-sleeved top with a cleavage cutout, a floral-patterned skirt tied with a pink sash, a white cape, and black high heels. She is accompanied by her pet snake Salome, a large serpent wearing a skull.

Personality

Boa Hancock possesses an exceptionally arrogant, proud, and self-centered personality. She holds a firm conviction that her sublime beauty pardons any misbehavior, often adopting an extreme pose where she leans backward to look down on others. Due to traumatic past experiences as a slave to the Celestial Dragons, she harbors a deep-seated hatred for the World Government and men in general. However, her cold demeanor completely shatters in the presence of Monkey D. Luffy, to whom she displays an intensely shy, devoted, and romantic side after he accepts her past without judgment.

Abilities

Boa Hancock wields the power of the Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, the Mero Mero no Mi, allowing her to petrify anyone attracted to her. Her technique arsenal includes Mellow, which fires heart-shaped beams; Pistol Kiss, releasing bullet-like hearts; Slave Arrow, shooting arrows that stone living targets and objects; and Perfume Femur, delivering kicks that petrify and shatter impact points. This petrification can only be undone by Hancock herself and remains active even if she loses consciousness or dies. Additionally, she is proficient in all three forms of Haki—Haoshoku, Busoshoku, and Kenbunshoku—and possesses exceptional physical combat skills.

Background

At age twelve, Boa Hancock was kidnapped alongside her younger sisters, Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold, and sold into slavery to the Celestial Dragons. During her captivity, she was subjected to cruel mistreatment and forced to consume a Devil Fruit for her captors' entertainment, receiving a slave mark branded onto her back. She was eventually freed when Fisher Tiger attacked Mary Geoise. Upon returning to Amazon Lily, she and her sisters concealed their branded backs by fabricating a legend about a Gorgon curse, eventually becoming Empress and leading the Kuja Pirates.

Relationships

Boa Hancock harbors an intense affection for Monkey D. Luffy, who earned her trust and love by shielding her sister's secret mark and treating her without contempt. She maintains an unbreakable bond forged through shared suffering with her younger sisters, Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold. Elder Nyon acts as an advisor who frequently tempers Hancock's exaggerated romantic misunderstandings. She holds deep gratitude toward Fisher Tiger for liberating her from slavery, and shows respect to Silvers Rayleigh as another benefactor who aided her after her escape.

Trivia

Her designated real-world nationality image is China, and her favorite food is hot pot. Her birthday, September 2, is derived from a Japanese wordplay on "Kuja" (9 and 2). Her iconic gesture of leaning back so far she stares at the ceiling when looking down on people is known as the "Looking Down Too Much Pose." In official spin-off material, it is revealed that she lacks basic knowledge about how children are conceived. Additionally, the Seraphim pacifista unit known as S-Snake was created using her genetic lineage.
