Overview
Fujitora, whose real name is Issho, is a Marine Headquarters Admiral in the manga and anime series ONE PIECE. Drafted into the Marines through the World Military Draft following the Summit War, he was exceptionally appointed directly to the top rank of Admiral despite being a newcomer to the organization. Guided by his personal philosophy of Moral Justice, he prioritizes the safety and protection of innocent civilians above political interests or military pride. Unafraid to challenge high-ranking superiors or question corrupt global systems, he stands out as a deeply principled and independent high-ranking officer.
Appearance
Standing 270 cm tall with a broad build, Issho has short cropped black hair, stubble around his mouth and chin, and facial wrinkles. A large X-shaped scar extends from his forehead to his cheeks across both of his blinded eyes, which appear clouded white when opened. His attire consists of traditional Japanese garments, including a light purple kimono, a purple cloak, arm guards, and geta sandals, worn underneath a white Marine coat. For walking, he carries a shikomizue (cane sword) named Yakuza Kasen.
Personality
Fujitora speaks in a polite yet traditional yakuza-style manner, often referring to himself with modest phrasing. He frequently projects a relaxed, self-deprecating persona and possesses a strong passion for gambling, often using dice rolls to determine critical decisions. Beneath this casual exterior lies a sharp, perceptive mind capable of analyzing complex political realities. He holds a deep skepticism toward the World Government and the Warlord system. Guided by his unyielding moral compass, he does not hesitate to confront his superior, Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, or apologize directly to victims of official neglect.
Abilities
Fujitora ate the Paramecia-type Zushi Zushi no Mi, allowing him to manipulate gravitational forces. He can apply intense downward pressure, launch horizontal gravity waves, or pull meteors directly from outer space. Using anti-gravity, he levitates objects such as rocks, warships, and rubble for transport or offensive strikes, though he cannot make his own body float directly. A master swordsman, he channels his abilities through his Supreme Grade sword, Yakuza Kasen. He also possesses highly developed Observation Haki, capable of sensing movements and attacks across broad distances spanning dozens of kilometers.
Background
Before entering the Marines, Issho served as the captain of the guard corps in the Aoi Kingdom and later worked as a bodyguard at a gambling hall in the West Blue. Horrified by the corrupt realities of the world, he chose to blind himself. Following the Summit War, he was recruited through the World Military Draft and elevated directly to the rank of Admiral. Assigned to Dressrosa, he observed the tyrannical rule of Donquixote Doflamingo and recognized how the World Government attempted to conceal its failures. Choosing not to interfere with Monkey D. Luffy's efforts to overthrow the tyrant, Issho publicly bowed to King Riku after the battle, taking full responsibility for the navy's inaction.
Relationships
Fujitora serves under Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, though their starkly different views on justice lead to frequent philosophical and verbal clashes. He maintains a relaxed demeanor with fellow Admiral Aramaki, despite their conflicting methods and ideologies. During the events of Dressrosa, he developed high personal respect for Monkey D. Luffy after experiencing his genuine character, even expressing quiet regret that he could not see Luffy's face. He has also engaged with other prominent figures, including Sabo of the Revolutionary Army, Roronoa Zoro, and Trafalgar Law, interacting with them based on his strict moral judgment rather than blind duty.
Trivia
His sword, Yakuza Kasen, is one of the 12 Supreme Grade swords, forged by the Wano Country craftsman Fugetsu Kisaburo. Fujitora's visual design, mannerisms, and named attacks pay homage to classic Japanese yakuza cinema and period dramas, particularly those starring Shintaro Katsu such as Zatoichi and the Heitai Yakuza film series. His official birthday on August 10 is derived from a Japanese wordplay on his title, Fujitora.
