Overview

The MSM-04 Acguy is a mass-produced amphibious mobile suit belonging to the Principality of Zeon, originating from Mobile Suit Gundam. Designed to cut manufacturing costs by utilizing existing parts from standard models, it excels in stealth operations due to its heat-reducing internal system and specialized radar-absorbing coating. Highly regarded for its quietness and reconnaissance efficiency, the unit also holds enduring fame among fans for its unusually charming and rounded appearance.

Appearance

The Acguy features a distinctive dark brown stealth camouflage finish and a rounded, heavy-set frame. Its large head is equipped with a single mono-eye sensor. The arms utilize a segmented, flexible bellowed structure, with the standard configuration housing retractable metallic claws on the right hand and a circular multi-barrel rocket launcher on the left.

Abilities

Equipped with twin thermonuclear reactors derived from the Zaku II, the unit can shut down one generator during submerged transit to minimize heat emission, rendering it virtually undetectable to thermal radar. Alongside high mobility on land and wetlands, its modular arm structures and head system support diverse weaponry, including 105mm vulcan guns, iron nail claws, a mega particle cannon, and a 6-barrel rocket launcher.

Background

Developed as a cost-effective mass-production model using parts from existing Zeon mobile suits, the Acguy was completed rapidly and deployed during key operations such as the infiltration of Jaburo. Its low cost and dual-cockpit design also made it useful for training pilots. Long after its initial service in the One Year War, modified and customized variants of the machine continued to be utilized across various battlefields and regional conflicts.

Relationships

The machine was operated by stealth reconnaissance pilots such as Akahana under the command of Char Aznable during the attack on Jaburo. In Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Haman Karn temporarily piloted a customized Acguy in combat against Judau Ashta. It has also been assigned to notable pilots in other conflicts, including Daryl Lorenz and Yuma Lightning.

Trivia

An iconic sitting posture in early promotional artwork and its unique proportions led to the Acguy becoming widely embraced as an endearing mascot character. Its popularity was further solidified by humorous win poses and quirky mechanics in various arcade fighting games and parody manga. This enduring fan reception eventually inspired official stylized model kit derivatives such as the Beargguy.
