Overview
Nena Trinity is a mobile suit pilot featuring in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and its second season. Operating as the youngest member of Team Trinity, she serves as the Gundam Meister for GNW-003 Gundam Throne Drei. Initially introduced as part of an independent branch of Celestial Being, her role shifts in the second season to acting as an operative under Wang Liu-mei, handling intelligence collection and logistical tasks behind the scenes.
Appearance
Nena features long red hair and yellow eyes, with freckles across her face and earrings for jewelry. Her hairstyle evolves across the series, worn in a two-side-up style during the first season and shifting to a side ponytail in the second season. She is depicted wearing a crop top. She is consistently accompanied by a distinctive purple Haro.
Personality
On the surface, Nena appears cheerful and energetic, but she harbors a deeply selfish, spoiled, and immature disposition. She holds non-Meisters in contempt and demonstrates a cruel indifference toward human life, casually taking lives out of minor frustration or whim. She is intensely fond of her older brothers, whom she affectionately addresses together. Highly emotional, she quickly drops her pleasant facade to exhibit threatening hostility when angered.
Abilities
As a designer baby created as a private soldier, Nena possesses limited capacity to interface with Veda using quantum brainwaves. In combat, she pilots the Gundam Throne Drei, utilizing equipment such as the GN Handgun and dispersing toxic red GN particles, though her pure piloting skill is relatively limited compared to veteran aces. In the second season, she operates the disguised mobile armor Rhian, using it to harbor her Throne Drei.
Background
Engineered solely for combat, Nena carried out destructive missions across the globe alongside her brothers Johann and Michael. Out of sheer annoyance during an assignment, she launched a unprovoked attack on a civilian wedding, devastating Louise Halevy's family. After losing her brothers to Ali al-Saachez, she was rescued and taken in by Wang Liu-mei. During the second season, she secretly spied on Liu-mei while serving her, ultimately murdering her. Immediately following this betrayal, she was confronted by a vengeful Louise piloting the Regnant and was killed when her cockpit was pierced.
Relationships
She was deeply attached to her elder brothers, Johann Trinity and Michael Trinity. Upon meeting Setsuna F. Seiei, she took an immediate liking to him and forced an unwanted kiss on him, though he thoroughly rejected her. Her random attack on a wedding party earned her the burning hatred of Louise Halevy, who lost her family and left hand, ultimately leading to Louise delivering her fatal punishment. While serving Wang Liu-mei in the second season, Nena harbored deep resentment toward her, eventually taking her life.
Trivia
Nena's visual character design was modeled after Reina Tanaka of the idol group Morning Musume, created by character designer Yun Koga after reviewing concert footage. She is also noted as a favorite character of Naohiro Washio, the mechanic designer responsible for the Throne series mobile suits.
