Overview
Mu La Flaga is an Earth Alliance ace pilot featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and its sequel series. Despite being a Natural, he possesses extraordinary piloting talents that allow him to fight on equal terms with Coordinators. Serving aboard the assault ship Archangel, he acts as a dependable older brother figure to young crew members like Kira Yamato while providing vital tactical support to captain Murrue Ramius. He later appears under the alias Neo Roanoke in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY.
Appearance
Mu is a man with short blonde hair. He wears a multicolored Earth Alliance officer jacket predominantly featuring white, as well as specialized pilot suits depending on his active assignment. During his time as Neo Roanoke, he dons a sleek black face mask that fully covers his upper head, paired with a dark military uniform.
Personality
On the surface, Mu has a casual, lighthearted demeanor, but underneath lies a sharp, realistic mindset shaped by extensive combat experience. He supports those around him with warmth and humor, offering sound advice to Captain Murrue Ramius and encouraging Kira Yamato during emotional crises. Self-described as the man who turns the impossible into reality, he remains cool-headed and reliable even when facing overwhelming odds.
Abilities
Mu possesses an exceptional sense of spatial awareness, granting him the unique ability to seamlessly command remote weapon systems like Gunbarrels and DRAGOON units. Whether piloting mobile armors such as the Moebius Zero and Skygrasper or mobile suits like the Strike Gundam and Akatsuki Gundam, his reflexes and tactics enable him to match high-performance enemy machines and defeat multiple opponents simultaneously.
Background
Born into the wealthy Flaga family, Mu earned the moniker 'Hawk of Endymion' after achieving remarkable battle results during a disastrous clash at the Endymion Crater. While escorting the initial GAT-X series development team at Heliopolis, he joined the crew of the Archangel following a surprise attack by ZAFT. Over time, he formed a deep bond with Murrue Ramius, but went missing after shielding the Archangel from a fatal attack in the final battle of the war. Rescued with no memory of his past, he was reformatted into Commander Neo Roanoke of the Phantom Pain. Eventually, flashbacks of his past restored his true identity, leading him to rejoin his former comrades.
Relationships
Mu shares a profound romantic relationship with Murrue Ramius, the captain of the Archangel. He serves as a trusted mentor and elder brother figure to Kira Yamato. His arch-rival, Rau Le Creuset, is a clone of Mu's father, Al Da Flaga, creating a twisted fate where the two are bound by intense mutual awareness on the battlefield. As Neo Roanoke, he commanded and cared for the Extended pilots Stella Loussier, Sting Oakley, and Auel Neider.
Trivia
Though famously celebrated as the 'Hawk of Endymion,' Mu dislikes the title because it originated from military propaganda surrounding a tragic battle that wiped out most of his fellow unit members. His personal emblem featuring a wing motif is worn on his helmet rather than painted onto his combat vehicles.
