Overview
The GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam is a massive transformable mobile suit developed by Adukef Mechanindustries for the Earth Alliance in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY. Created under a secret order from Logos as a strategic mobile weapon, it stands roughly twice the size of a standard mobile suit. Built specifically to be piloted by Extended (Biological CPU) personnel, this unit possesses immense firepower capable of wiping out whole cities, serving as a terrifying strategic instrument of destruction.
Appearance
Standing at an overall height of 56.30 meters (head height 38.07 meters) and weighing 404.93 tons, this machine features a traditional V-fin antenna on its head. Its facial area houses gun ports in the mouth and side head regions, while the chest contains a three-barrel large-caliber cannon assembly. It carries a massive disc-like backpack mounted with four long twin cannons, twenty peripheral beam ports, and missile launchers. The detachable forearm units and backpack tips incorporate beam shield generators. During transformation into MA mode, the head lowers into the chest body as the backpack covers the main frame.
Personality
As a non-sentient weapon, the Destroy Gundam has no personal temperament of its own. However, because piloting it requires high linkage with an Extended pilot, those placed inside often undergo severe psychological re-conditioning that causes drastic, unstable personality shifts. The suit's control system operates under a specialized OS designated G.F.A.S, which allows remote control intervention from a base command room.
Abilities
Capable of converting between MS and MA forms, the unit flies in the atmosphere using hover thrusters built into its backpack. Its defense relies on a Positron Reflector alongside sturdy armor to repel physical shell impacts and ranged beam strikes. Its arsenal includes the Zorn Mk2 mouth beam cannon, the chest-mounted Super Scylla, the long-range Aufprall Dreizehn cannons, the 360-degree Nefertum 503 beam ports, and multi-purpose missile launchers. The detachable Sturm Faust arms act as wireless remote attack units. Despite its overwhelming heavy firepower, its sheer size results in low agility, making it vulnerable to close-quarters beam blade attacks once enemies breach its range.
Background
Developed during the Second Alliance-PLANT War by Adukef Mechanindustries under secret orders from Logos, the suit first saw combat at Berlin, where it leveled the city and crushed the stationed ZAFT forces. Subsequent units were stationed at key strategic sites, including the Earth Alliance's Heavens Base headquarters and the Daedalus lunar base, as well as deployed aboard Hannibal-class land battleships. Even after the war, surviving units remained in the hands of Blue Cosmos remnants, who deployed them in assault operations such as the raid on the Aldrin Autonomous Region.
Relationships
During the attack on Berlin, Stella Loussier served as its primary pilot alongside Neo Roanoke's escort unit. In the battle at Heavens Base, Sting Oakley piloted one of several deployed Destroy Gundams. In side stories, Fanfelt Lia Lindsay operated a unit to confront Agnis Brahe. Across its operational history, units of this model faced and were ultimately destroyed by key ace pilots including Shinn Asuka and Kira Yamato.
Trivia
The machine's name 'Destroy' comes directly from the English word for destruction. Its unique OS acronym G.F.A.S stands for 'Gigantic Unilateral Numerous Dominating Ammunition (Fortress)'. To technically align with military treaties, the machine refrains from using nuclear engines or Mirage Colloid stealth technology, running entirely on a high-capacity battery system instead.
