Overview
Graham Aker is a prominent mobile suit pilot in the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 series. Serving as an ace aviator across the Union's Anti-Gundam Survey Squad, the autonomous A-Laws force, and later the Earth Sphere Federation Army, he acts as a primary rival to Setsuna F. Seiei. Driven by an intense obsession with Gundam units, he also adopts the masked identity of Mister Bushido. He is renowned for his extraordinary piloting talent, theatrical speeches, and deep commitment to personal honor on the battlefield.
Appearance
Graham Aker has short blonde hair with strands hanging between his green eyes. During his military service with the Union, he wears a uniform consisting of a blue long-sleeved jacket, a white collared shirt, a grey necktie, pants, and gloves. To conceal deep physical scars across his face and body, he later dons a dark Asura mask paired with a Japanese-style jinbaori vest. He is left-handed.
Personality
Graham possesses a highly passionate and dramatic personality, frequently delivering poetic and theatrical statements. His fascination with Gundam mobile suits evolves into an uncompromising obsession with single combat. Guided by a strict personal code of warrior honor, he refuses to strike compromised opponents or take unfair advantages. Despite his headstrong tendency to force his own will, he is deeply protective of his subordinates, strongly urging them to survive their engagements.
Abilities
Graham is a master mobile suit pilot specializing in close-quarters combat. Being left-handed, his custom machines are specifically tailored to his dominant hand. He created the high-risk Graham Special, a maneuver involving in-flight transformation between fighter and mobile suit forms that subjects the pilot to extreme 12G forces. He possesses physical stamina capable of withstanding immense acceleration, enabling him to single-handedly execute tactical rotations usually performed by three-unit teams. Over his career, he pilots machines including the Union Flag, GN Flag, Sakigake, Masurao, Susanoo, Brave Commander Test Type, and Gundam Exia Repair IV.
Background
Raised as an orphan, Graham joined the air force out of a passion for the sky and rose to become a Union ace pilot. After witnessing the Gundam Exia in action, he became obsessed with the mobile suits of Celestial Being and joined the Anti-Gundam Survey Squad. Following a brutal conflict that left him scarred, he assumed the persona of Mister Bushido within the A-Laws, holding an independent license to pursue a decisive duel with Setsuna F. Seiei. During the ELS invasion, he mounted a suicidal charge to open a path for dialogue, but survived through ELS assimilation, eventually joining Celestial Being as a Gundam Meister.
Relationships
Graham forms a fierce rivalry with Setsuna F. Seiei, whom he views first as a target of destiny and ultimately as the person he must surpass and support. He shares a close personal and professional bond with technical developer Billy Katagiri, who custom-built advanced mobile suits for him. Commander Homer Katagiri granted him his independent license, while Professor Leif Eifman served as a trusted advisor. Graham also maintained strong leadership ties with subordinates such as Howard Mason, Daryl Dodge, and Yagan Crow.
Trivia
Graham's character concept was inspired by Captain Nathan Algren from the film The Last Samurai, and his background notes that his great-grandfather was Japanese. In video game spin-offs such as the SD Gundam G Generation series, his dramatic nature is often exaggerated, leading to humorous lines where he renames famous attacks and remote funnel weaponry after himself, such as calling them Graham Funnels.
