Within Team Try Fighters, he serves as the tactical strategist and rear long-range sniper as they compete in the All-Japan Gunpla Battle Championship.
Appearance
Yuuma is a teenage boy defined by his blue hair and glasses. He wears the standard school uniform. In his early childhood, his hair was the same color as his older sister China's.
Personality
Yuuma usually projects a cool and composed demeanor, yet he conceals a hot-blooded fighting spirit. He shows a naive and flustered side around his crush, Mirai Kamiki, and has a habit of speaking his mind when it comes to romantic feelings. He is terrified of the occult and holds a strong sense of responsibility regarding a childhood promise made with Fumina Hoshino. Though initially prone to settling within limits he set for himself, he gradually overcomes this mindset through his experiences with teammates and rivals.
Abilities
Yuuma has a preference for transformable machines, notably piloting his custom Lightning Gundam based on the Re-GZ. In team battles, he excels at long-range marksmanship, possessing the skill to accurately snipe targets even through narrow gaps between obstacles. As a builder, he is highly talented, responsible for crafting the Lightning Back Weapon System support unit, aiding in the modification of the Build Burning Gundam, and unifying polycap standards across team suits for field repairs.
Background
After winning an elementary division Gunpla tournament in his youth, Yuuma suffered a crushing defeat against Adou Saga, leading him to abandon battling temporarily. At Seiho Academy, he initially joined the Plastic Model Club. However, after confronting Sekai Kamiki and Fumina Hoshino in battle, he reclaimed his passion, transferred to the Gunpla Battle Club, and formed Team Try Fighters. Overcoming past trauma and fierce matches, he helped lead his team to national victory and subsequently won the Meijin Cup.
Relationships
Yuuma is the younger brother of China Kousaka and a childhood friend of Fumina Hoshino. He frequently bickers with his teammate and classmate Sekai Kamiki, though they deeply respect each other's abilities. He holds romantic feelings toward Sekai's older sister, Mirai Kamiki. He shares a fierce rivalry with Osaka builder Minato Sakai and regards Adou Saga as his bitter rival whom he sought to overcome after a past defeat.
Trivia
The combination of Yuuma's name and his signature suit, the Lightning Gundam, references Yuuma Lightning from the MSV-R setting. Following his team's national championship victory, a fan club named the Kousaka Yuuma Fan Club was established by his admirers.
