Overview
Trowa Barton is one of the main characters in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Operating under an assumed identity taken right before the mission, he participates in Operation Meteor as the primary pilot of the XXXG-01H Gundam Heavyarms. While on Earth, he conceals his operative status by working as a clown within a traveling circus. Though appearing stoic and reserved on the surface, he possesses a deeply caring nature toward his fellow pilots.
Appearance
He has short brown hair with signature long bangs that completely drape over one eye, along with green eyes. Although slender in appearance, he possesses an exceptionally muscular body under his clothes. Additionally, he bears an old burn scar on his back.
Personality
Exceptionally quiet and composed, he rarely expresses emotion or reveals his inner thoughts to others. Despite his detached demeanor, he is practical, perceptive, and remarkably adept at subtle interpersonal interactions. He demonstrates a caring side toward his allies, looking after his fellow operatives and forming strong bonds with those around him. Beneath his calculating military mindset lies a intense, quiet affection for his mobile suit and his companions.
Abilities
Having grown up on the battlefield without formal pilot training, his mobile suit control skill is among the highest of the Gundam team. He excels in tactical heavy-artillery saturation attacks with the Gundam Heavyarms, deliberately taking advantage of the machine's altered weight balance after depleting its ammunition. His extraordinary physical capabilities and sense of balance allow him to execute intricate acrobatic moves—such as a moonsault—inside a standard mobile suit cockpit. Furthermore, he possesses expert infiltration skills and mobile suit maintenance expertise.
Background
Having lived as a nameless child mercenary across battlefields from a very young age, he eventually worked as a mobile suit mechanic in space. Taking the name of the original pilot just before Operation Meteor, he joined the mission and descended to Earth, hiding within a circus. Later, after infiltrating OZ and sustaining heavy damage while attempting to stop a rogue enemy, he drifted into space and lost his memory. Sheltered once more by the circus, he eventually regained his past during the conflict and returned to fight alongside his comrades.
Relationships
He maintains strong mutual trust with fellow pilots Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, and Chang Wufei. He shares a particularly deep connection with Quatre Raberba Winner, with whom he bonded over music and who played a pivotal role in restoring his lost memories. Catherine Bloom, the circus performer, takes care of him like a younger brother, acting as a crucial emotional anchor in his life. He also acted under the orders of Doktor S for his original mission.
Trivia
The name 'Trowa' is derived from the French word for the number three ('trois'). In addition to his piloting talents, he demonstrates artistic skill by playing the flute. He also personally adds a distinct circus clown mask to the face of his Gundam Heavyarms.
