Overview

A mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Season 2. Jointly developed as a prototype by Ochs Earth Corporation and the Vanadis Institute, it serves as Suletta Mercury's main machine during the story's climax. While boasting formidable combat capabilities, it subjects its pilot to extreme physical stress, earning it the ominous moniker of a monster among those aware of its existence.

Appearance

Designed by JNTHED, the mobile suit features a predominantly pure white color scheme resembling a rollout state, accented with red and yellow details. Its head incorporates two black blade antennas, large rounded green eyes, a squared chin mask, and a prominent red protrusion on the lower jaw. The overall design shares visual traits with earlier GUND-ARM units, including the original Aerial and Lfrith series. It carries two beam sabers on its backpack and a long Variable Rod Rifle that surpasses the unit's height. In High Maneuver Mode, its toes and heels fold together to streamline the feet, and its shell units illuminate during operation.

Abilities

The machine operates via the GUND Format control system, using Permet score increases to unleash superior performance. By completely omitting the filter mechanism that mitigates data storm feedback, it can achieve and sustain higher Permet Scores with minimal Permet consumption, albeit at severe threat to the pilot's life. Its armament includes head-mounted beam vulcans for close defense and two backpack-mounted beam sabers emitting light-blue blades. Its primary weapon, the Variable Rod Rifle, features rear Quadra Thrusters that deploy into an X-configuration to generate massive boost, enabling high-speed maneuvers when combined with the suit's main thrusters. Converting the feet into High Maneuver Mode further enhances spatial attitude control in space.

Background

Developed during the early stages of GUND Format technology, this machine competed against the Gundam Lfrith for formal adoption. While the Lfrith focused on pilot safety and manageable feedback, this prototype prioritized performance above all else, disregarding life-support ethics. After losing the selection, its official development records were expunged and the unit was sealed. During the Vanadis Incident, the Space Assembly League confiscated the unit and kept it hidden. It was later entrusted to Suletta Mercury on Guston's initiative to counter Quiet Zero, succeeding in activation tests at Permet Score 5 to sortie into battle.

Relationships

Suletta Mercury serves as its primary pilot, drawing out its high performance through her exceptional skills and tolerance to data storms. It engaged in intense combat around Quiet Zero against the Gundam Aerial Rebuild, which housed Ericht Samaya. Guston Parche and Belmeria Winston were among the few aware of its secret location and facilitated its handover to Suletta. Additionally, it stands as the design counterpoint to the Gundam Lfrith, against which it originally competed.

Trivia

The name draws from Caliban, the witch's son in Shakespeare's The Tempest, while also referencing Caliburn, the sword of Arthurian legend. Its silhouette when wielding the long rifle evokes the image of a witch riding a broomstick. The suit has also appeared in crossover gaming titles such as Gundam Breaker 4 and Monster Strike.
