Neo Zeong
The NZ-999 Neo Zeong is a super-giant mobile armor designed for base assault, appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam UC. Belonging to the Neo Zeon remnant group known as the Sleeves, it is piloted by Full Frontal, who was involved in its basic architecture. Rather than a simple armor upgrade, the machine consists of a massive Hull Unit structure that houses the Sinanju as its central core module. Taking its name from Char Aznable's Zeong from the One Year War, it turns the red mobile suit into an overwhelming monstrous force equipped with novel psycommu systems.
Overview
Appearance
Standing at a massive overall height of 116.0 meters, the crimson unit lacks legs and instead features a pair of long sturm boosters on its lower half. Its mono-eye glows green, and a single horn is mounted atop its head. Instead of a standard humanoid frame, its body accommodates six arm units in total—two main arms and four mounted on the back—alongside sub-arms hidden inside the front armor that function as landing gear. Multiple mega particle cannon ports are positioned throughout the shoulders and body, flanked by waist-mounted I-field generators and shoulder weapon containers. Due to its sheer volume, it cannot fit inside standard carrier bays and must be transported wired to a flagship's underbelly.
Personality
As a massive mechanical construct, the Neo Zeong possesses no consciousness or personality of its own. However, it operates in total unison with its pilot, Full Frontal, serving as an extension of his absolute skill and nihilistic worldview. Through its advanced psycommu systems, it manifests an aura of overwhelming despair, directly projecting its pilot's intent into the surrounding space.
Abilities
The machine's wired large funnel bits can perform all-range attacks and execute a psycommu jack to seize control of enemy units or base networks via wire anchors. Its four rear arm units flex dynamically to eliminate blind spots, serve as reserve funnel containers, and immediately replace destroyed primary limbs. Its arsenal includes six shoulder mega particle cannons, a high mega beam cannon in the abdomen, waist-mounted I-field generators that deflect beam attacks, shoulder weapon containers storing Sinanju's bazookas, and arm beam sabers. Its most formidable feature is the Psyco Shard generator, which releases micro-chips to form a golden halo of crystalline pseudo-psycoframe. This intentionally manifests a pseudo-psyco-field capable of forcing opposing weaponry to self-destruct.
Background
Constructed by the Sleeves as a trump card against the Unicorn Gundam, the machine was designed under Full Frontal's supervision and built by Neo Zeon engineers, though core technology like the Psyco Shard remained a black box. Deployed during the final battle around the Megallanica, it engaged Banagher Links' Unicorn Gundam and Riddhe Marcenas' Banshee Norn. Utilizing its supreme armaments and Psyco Shard, it forced its opponents to the brink and triggered a psycho-frame resonance that showed them visions of time's cosmic memory. Unused spare parts manufactured during its construction were later assembled by the Republic of Zeon into the II Neo Zeong, piloted by Zoltan Akkanen.
Relationships
The machine is piloted by Full Frontal, the leader of the Sleeves. In combat, it serves as the final adversary to Banagher Links in the Unicorn Gundam and Riddhe Marcenas in the Banshee Norn. Its design concept and naming tradition stem directly from the original mobile suit piloted by Char Aznable during the One Year War, the Zeong.
Trivia
When adapting the original novel into the anime format, director Kazuhiro Furuhashi and mechanical designer Hajime Katoki combined their ideas to create a behemoth exceeding 100 meters in height, ensuring the final antagonist possessed an insurmountable presence. Additionally, the name 'Neo Zeong' was originally considered as a tentative concept name during the early planning stages of the Alpha Azieru.
