Overview

The Dopp is an atmospheric light fighter aircraft featured in Mobile Suit Gundam. Developed by the Principality of Zeon as a primary fighter for its Earth invasion campaign, it was mass-produced in large numbers to operate in formation alongside mother ships such as the Gaw attack carrier.

Appearance

The craft features a distinctive silhouette defined by a cockpit cabin that protrudes prominently from the main body, paired with relatively small wings. Standard mass-production units are finished in a moss-green color scheme, while a custom variant painted in brown was used by Garma Zabi.

Abilities

Armed with a 6-tube missile launcher and a 30mm vulcan cannon, the Dopp relies on high-output engines to achieve top speeds of Mach 5. This engine-driven propulsion grants the craft tight-turning agility in aerial dogfights and allows it to maintain flight even if its wings sustain damage. However, its high thrust consumption results in a very limited operational range—with continuous flight duration estimated at around 10 minutes or a maximum distance of 1,200 kilometers—requiring it to operate close to its parent ship.

Background

Developed rapidly by the Principality of Zeon to support its Earth invasion forces despite the faction's limited experience with atmospheric aerodynamics, the Dopp served as a standard fighter during the One Year War. Under the command of Garma Zabi, Dopp squadrons repeatedly attacked the Earth Federation ship White Base after it descended in North America. The fighter also appears across related titles such as Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team.

Relationships

Garma Zabi commanded Dopp squadrons during the North American campaign, personally piloting a brown custom unit against the Earth Federation ship White Base. Norris Packard is also designated as a pilot of the aircraft. Operationally, the fighter maintained a tight connection with the Gaw attack carrier, which functioned as its primary deployment and support base.

Trivia

Setting details regarding the craft's flight range vary across publications; while some sources mention a continuous flight limit of 10 minutes, reference material such as Gundam Century lists its range as 1,200 kilometers. Additionally, an upgraded variant designated as the Dopp II appears in the manga series Mobile Suit Gundam: Daybreak of Zeon.
