Emma Sheen

Overview

A prominent supporting character in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Emma Sheen begins as a test pilot for the Earth Federation's Titans unit before defecting to the anti-Earth Federation group AEUG. Holding the rank of Lieutenant, she is a skilled mobile suit pilot who serves as a vital frontline combatant throughout the Gryps Conflict.

Appearance

She is a woman characterized by her short brown hair and green eyes. While serving in the Titans, she wore their standard long-sleeved uniform and pilot suit. After joining the AEUG, her main attire changed to a green sleeveless top paired with white trousers, boots, and gloves.

Personality

Raised in a military family, Emma possesses a serious demeanor with a profound sense of justice and discipline. She acts as a stern yet caring older sister figure to younger comrades, not hesitating to mete out physical discipline when they act on emotion. While unyielding in her rejection of dishonorable methods, she exhibits a softer, hesitant side when dealing with romantic advances.

Abilities

Emma is an exceptionally capable mobile suit pilot whose skills rank among the elite within the AEUG. Initially serving as a test pilot for the Gundam Mk-II during her time with the Titans, she later piloted the Rick Dias for the AEUG before taking over the Gundam Mk-II and its combined Super Gundam configuration in numerous combat operations.

Background

Born into a Japanese military family, Emma lived on Earth prior to her assignment with the Titans. During the Gundam Mk-II theft at Green No. 1, she was shocked by the Titans' hostage tactics, prompting her to defect to the AEUG alongside the test units. Learning the truth behind the 30 Bunch poison gas incident solidified her decision to fight for the AEUG. Near the climax of the Gryps Conflict, she defeated Reccoa Londe in battle but was fatally wounded by exploding shrapnel, ultimately passing away in Kamille Bidan's arms while entrusting him with her hope for peace.

Relationships

She served as a strict mentor and sisterly figure to Kamille Bidan and Fa Yuiry, fostering their growth and independence. Captain Henken Bekkener of the Radish harbored deep romantic feelings for her, a courtship that initially flustered her but gradually brought them closer. Though close friends with Reccoa Londe during their time in the AEUG, the two ultimately met as enemies on the battlefield. Bright Noa and Quattro Bajeena served as her commanding officers.

Trivia

Emma holds the historical distinction of being the first official female mobile suit pilot in the Gundam franchise. In the novel adaptation, she is revealed to be a secret fan of watching women's professional wrestling. Media adaptations also soften her strict military edge, portraying her with a more approachable and maternal warmth in the animated film trilogy.
