Infinite Justice Gundam

The ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice Gundam is a high-performance Mobile Suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY. Manufactured in secret at the Factory by the non-governmental organization Terminal, it serves as the direct successor to the original Justice Gundam. Retaining the distinctive red color scheme of its predecessor, the machine is specialized for high-intensity close-quarters combat while maintaining comprehensive tactical capabilities across all ranges. Custom-built to match the piloting abilities of Athrun Zala—and briefly transported by Lacus Clyne—it stands alongside the Strike Freedom Gundam as one of the most powerful Mobile Suits fielded during the C.E. 73 conflict.

Overview

Appearance

Standing 18.90 meters tall and weighing 79.67 metric tons, the Infinite Justice Gundam features a primary red color scheme reminiscent of the original Justice. Its outer hull is constructed with Variable Phase Shift armor, while its internal frame is made of Phase Shift material that glows silver when powered. Attached to its back is the large Fatum-01 flight lifter, equipped with flexible wings and thrusters. Beam blades are integrated directly along the legs from the knees down to the toes. Its armament setup includes an arm-mounted composite shield housing a beam shield generator, with a dedicated storage rack for its beam rifle located on the rear skirt.

Abilities

Powered by a Hyper Deuterion Engine combined with a Neutron Jammer Canceller, the unit achieves immense energy output. Standard close-in defense includes head and chest CIWS guns. For hand-held combat, it uses a beam rifle designed for rapid maneuvering and high-output beam sabers that can connect into a dual-bladed staff. The legs feature integrated beam blades along the shin and foot for destructive kicking maneuvers. Its composite beam carry shield projects a robust beam barrier, while storing a beam boomerang—which functions as a large beam sword when attached—and a wire-guided grapple stinger. The detachable Fatum-01 lifter functions as a high-speed projectile or sub-flight lifter, armed with twin beam cannons, multiple beam sabers, wing blades, and a specialized ramming tip.

Background

The suit's origins lie in an unproduced ZAFT prototype designed alongside the original Justice, which was sealed following the treaty of Junius. The designs were covertly retrieved by the Clyne Faction, after which Terminal overhauled the machine using cutting-edge technology. Incorporating pilot performance data from Athrun Zala and structural input from Kira Yamato, the unit was built to operate in tandem with the Strike Freedom Gundam. Transported down to Earth by Lacus Clyne during the defense of Orb, the suit was entrusted to Athrun, who rejoined the conflict to repel attacking ZAFT forces. Later assigned to the Orb military, it played a pivotal role in the final battles of the war, neutralizing the battleship Minerva and dismantling the Requiem superweapon.

Relationships

The Infinite Justice Gundam is uniquely tailored to Athrun Zala, designed around his combat habits and exceptional piloting skills. Kira Yamato actively participated in the suit's final design phase, ensuring its combat profile seamlessly complements the Strike Freedom Gundam. Lacus Clyne personally piloted the suit during its drop to Earth to deliver it to Athrun. On the battlefield, the suit faced off against Shin Asuka and his Destiny Gundam in multiple close-quarters engagements, ultimately demonstrating superior combat efficiency by disabling the opposing mecha.

Trivia

During early production, the unit was originally designated as "Knight Justice Gundam," but was renamed to avoid a trademark overlap with an existing pachislot title. Its extensive array of beam weaponry positioned across every part of its body earned it the affectionate fan nickname "hedgehog." Within the actual animated series, characters never address the machine by its full title, referring to it simply as "Justice." Additionally, tactical games and media frequently abbreviate the machine's name by replacing "Infinite" with the infinity symbol, styling it as "∞ Justice."
