Stargazer Gundam

The GSX-401FW Stargazer Gundam is a mobile suit created by the Deep Space Survey and Development Organization (D.S.S.D.) in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E.73 STARGAZER. Designed as a non-combat vessel for deep space exploration beyond Mars's orbit, it functions primarily via an advanced autonomous AI system and a specialized interplanetary propulsion unit. As the main mobile suit of its series, it stands out for its lack of standard weaponry, relying instead on high mobility and extraordinary structural resilience.

Overview

The GSX-401FW Stargazer Gundam is a mobile suit created by the Deep Space Survey and Development Organization (D.S.S.D.) in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E.73 STARGAZER. Designed as a non-combat vessel for deep space exploration beyond Mars's orbit, it functions primarily via an advanced autonomous AI system and a specialized interplanetary propulsion unit. As the main mobile suit of its series, it stands out for its lack of standard weaponry, relying instead on high mobility and extraordinary structural resilience.

Appearance

The suit features a white exterior armor with a head equipped with a V-fin antenna, twin eyes, and dual searchlights mounted horizontally on its cheeks. Black slits that glow gold when active are distributed across its body. Its back holds a ring-shaped torus unit supported by multi-jointed arms on both sides. The chest armor opens laterally from the center to access the internal block, while the arms carry gauntlet-like reinforced plating and the side skirts house wire anchors. Due to its non-combat design, structural inner framing remains visible around the flank and calves.

Personality

The suit's internal operating framework incorporates a self-learning, self-conversational distributed processing AI capable of natural language interaction over command line interfaces. During system setup, the unit responds to user communications and can dynamically update its system designation upon learning its name. It acquires combat and navigational experience through operational data feedback provided during manned flights.

Abilities

Equipped with the Voiture Lumiere propulsion system, the unit generates a quantum membrane to convert external energy like solar winds or lasers into thrust without requiring physical propellant. The glowing rings generated around the machine act as an inadvertent defensive shield against projectiles and energy weapons while also functioning like a beam saber capable of slicing targets. Its cockpit block can be rapidly converted between dual-seat manual control and an automated AI processing core. For self-defense, it can wield a compact KSM71/J beam gun. Its structural frame possesses extreme heat and pressure endurance.

Background

Developed under D.S.S.D.'s space initiative, the machine was originally designated as 401 before receiving its official name during initial space trials from Sol Ryune L'ange and Selene McGriff. When Earth Alliance forces under Phantom Pain launched an assault on the D.S.S.D. space station to seize its technology, the unit was converted for manned operation and deployed in defense. During a battle against the Strike Noir, it used a high-output propulsion beam from the Apollo A laser station to initiate extreme acceleration, crippling its opponent through gravitational strain while being cast far out into deep space. It was recovered by a D.S.S.D. rescue ship after drifting for 669 hours.

Relationships

The machine was tested and operated primarily by developer Selene McGriff and test pilot Sol Ryune L'ange. Its back-mounted ring unit was created separately at the Troya Station under the direction of Dr. Morisewire. During the defense of the D.S.S.D. station, it engaged in a high-stakes combat encounter against Sven Cal Bayang's Strike Noir Gundam.

Trivia

The machine's specialized operating system yields the acronym G.U.N.D.A.M. (Guider UNmanned Deployment Autonomic Manipulation). Though initially identified purely by its model number, its internal system officially updated its display identifier to STARGAZER after processing a text log input during functional testing. It remains one of the few main-series Gundam units created explicitly for peaceful exploration rather than warfare.
