Gabthley
The RX-110 Gabthley is a prototype transformable mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Developed at the Luna II base using design concepts submitted by Paptimus Scirocco, it belongs to the third generation of mobile suits that fully incorporate movable frame technology. Operating under the Titans faction, it boasts extraordinary mobility and firepower in both its mobile suit and insect-like mobile armor forms. It was deployed in combat by pilots such as Jerid Messa and Mouar Pharaoh against opposing forces.
Overview
The RX-110 Gabthley is a prototype transformable mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Developed at the Luna II base using design concepts submitted by Paptimus Scirocco, it belongs to the third generation of mobile suits that fully incorporate movable frame technology. Operating under the Titans faction, it boasts extraordinary mobility and firepower in both its mobile suit and insect-like mobile armor forms. It was deployed in combat by pilots such as Jerid Messa and Mouar Pharaoh against opposing forces.
Appearance
The Gabthley features a pink mono-eye and a unique silhouette. Its waist area is fitted with armor plates resembling a flared skirt, while its head crest was stylized after pilot Jerid Messa's hair. In its transformable mobile armor mode, its body reshapes into a form reminiscent of a cicada or insect, repositioning its exterior armor forward. Additionally, the leg armor unfolds to reveal the underlying movable frame, forming large mechanical claw arms.
Abilities
Equipped with 22 thrusters across its chassis, the Gabthley directs its propulsion backward to execute high-speed hit-and-run attacks. Its legs unfold into large claw arms capable of crushing an opponent's limbs, an element usable even in a half-transformed intermediate state. The unit carries a long-barreled Feyadeen Rifle, flexible shoulder-mounted mega particle cannons, a head vulcan cannon, and waist-mounted diffused beam cannons designed to disorient targets at close range. It also stows four beam sabers inside its arms.
Background
Conceived as an advanced prototype to modernize the Titans fleet, the Gabthley moved away from traditional mobile armor bases by prioritizing flexible transforming mechanisms. Although its raw performance rivaled top-tier machines of its era, the high production costs and maintenance difficulties stemming from its complex transformation structure resulted in the cancellation of mass production. Only a limited number of units were deployed, heavily pressuring opponents like Kamille Bidan's Gundam Mk-II during field combat.
Relationships
The machine was engineered from concept plans submitted by Paptimus Scirocco. It was primarily piloted in combat by Jerid Messa and Mouar Pharaoh, who executed coordinated joint maneuvers to overwhelm targets. During its operational deployment, it frequently engaged in fierce battles against Kamille Bidan, who piloted the opponent forces' flagship units including the Gundam Mk-II and Zeta Gundam.
Trivia
Mecha designer Kazumi Fujita noted that the waist section was modeled after a flare skirt, while the forehead structure was stylized to resemble Jerid's unique hair. Later side stories expand upon its design lineage, introducing variant models such as the Gabthley Hugin and Munin, as well as the successor unit Gundam TR-6 [Haze'n-thley II].
