Dijeh
The MSK-008 Dijeh is a mobile suit developed by the anti-Earth Federation resistance group Karaba, appearing in works such as Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam NT. Re-engineered from the AEUG's Rick Dias as a specialized land-combat machine for atmospheric operation, it is famous as the primary suit piloted by legendary ace Amuro Ray during the Gryps Conflict. Characterized by its distinctive Zeon-inspired silhouette, high responsiveness, and heavy cooling hardware, the Dijeh stands as one of Karaba's premier high-performance units.
Overview
Appearance
The Dijeh features a Gelgoog-like head silhouette with a monoeye visor concealing internal sockets for twin-eye cameras. Its head houses a rotating cockpit accessed via a hatch on the left side. Commander variants feature a blade antenna atop the head and a rod-type multi-sensor on top of the back radiator fins. The right shoulder holds a smooth, curved round shield without spikes, while the left shoulder carries a weapon rack. Color variations include a dark gray Luio & Co. scheme with a left-shoulder searchlight on leader units, a red custom unit for Char Aznable, and a white unit for Karavina Marmoset.
Abilities
Optimized for atmospheric ground combat, the Dijeh incorporates a lightweight frame, ground-tuned generator, and enhanced cooling via back radiator fins. Thermonuclear jet engines in its legs enable rapid hover movement, outperforming the Nemo in maneuverability. Its head-mounted 60mm vulcan guns receive ammunition from the backpack via feed tubes. For melee combat, its twin-emitter beam naginata creates a thicker blade when operated from a single side. Ranged weaponry includes the BR-M-87 beam rifle shared with the Hyaku Shiki and a 300mm clay bazooka, while its left-shoulder rack can hold heavy equipment such as a hyper mega launcher. Furthermore, its back fins can function as throwable weapons known as Throwing Busters.
Background
Developed during the Gryps Conflict in UC 0087, the Dijeh was created by Karaba using Apolly Bay's left-behind Rick Dias on the Audhumla. Engineered with assistance from former Zeon technical staff at Anaheim Electronics' California plant, it inherited Zeon-inspired structural features. Assigned to Amuro Ray during the attack on the Titans' Kilimanjaro base, the mecha achieved impressive combat results. Due to its sensitive control balance, production remained limited to a small batch for veteran pilots. In UC 0097, Luio & Co. deployed refurbished units, and the machine's architecture later gave rise to space-use variants like the Rick Dijeh as well as custom units for Char Aznable.
Relationships
Amuro Ray served as the primary pilot of the Dijeh during Karaba's terrestrial campaigns in the Gryps Conflict. Apolly Bay's Rick Dias provided the foundation frame for the prototype unit built on the Audhumla. Char Aznable later piloted a red-painted customized Dijeh during the early days of Neo Zeon, using its technical data to contribute toward the development of the Jagd Doga. In UC 0097, Jona Basta and agents associated with Michele Luio operated dark-gray Dijeh units during field missions conducted by Luio & Co.
Trivia
The mecha design of the Dijeh was created by Kazumi Fujita. The inclusion of hidden twin-eye sockets beneath its monoeye visor is explained in setting lore as a backup feature or a consideration for former Zeon engineers. In the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam compilation film trilogy, the unit does not appear because the Kilimanjaro base battle was omitted from the narrative. In model kit releases, following its original 1/144 kit during the original broadcast, the machine eventually received modern kits in the RE/100 and HGUC lines, including a dedicated Narrative Version depicting the Luio & Co. colors.
