Overview
Renee Costa is a character from the animated series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. She is a second-year student in the Pilot Course at the Asticassia School of Technology and a member of the Shaddiq Squad, which supports Grassley House leader Shaddiq Zenelli. While presenting a lively and outgoing facade, she possesses a calculating, two-faced temperament that varies dramatically between male and female peers, complemented by high competence in mobile suit combat.
Appearance
Renee has brown eyes and brown hair styled in twintails, with bangs falling between her eyes. She wears the Asticassia School of Technology uniform, which includes a green jacket fitted with shoulder boards, a shirt, a bodystocking, black fingerless gloves, and green shorts. Her navel-baring crop top is worn over a black inner shirt. Her outfit features an asymmetrical design, with only the left leg of her shorts rolled up.
Personality
Renee is energetic and proactive, making her one of the most assertive members of her squad. Beneath her cheerful demeanor lies a cunning nature; she acts flirtatious toward her male admirers but swiftly turns cold and clicks her tongue when annoyed. She harbours intense hostility toward anyone she feels treats her followers poorly. Although indifferent toward older figures, she is straightforward enough to recognize and respect exceptional piloting talent in others.
Abilities
Renee is a highly capable mobile suit pilot ranked tenth in individual combat odds at the academy. Throughout her engagements, she pilots units such as the Beguir-Pende and the Heindree. In combat, she demonstrates notable evasive maneuverability by dodging GUND-Bit patterns to engage in close-quarters battle, while smoothly defending against unexpected ambushes. While piloting the Beguir-Pende, she effectively deployed its Antidote system to disable opposing electronics.
Background
While enrolled at the Asticassia School of Technology, Renee is secretly an Earthian originating from Grassley's re-education facility known as the Academy. Serving under Shaddiq Zenelli, she actively participated in squad duels and campus battle events. She joined Shaddiq's rebellion aimed at dismantling the Benerit Group, engaging in direct mobile suit operations. Following her team's defeat against the Dominicus corps and subsequent detention, she was eventually released three years later to work alongside her peers under Miorine Rembran.
Relationships
Renee is dedicated to Shaddiq Zenelli, acting on his tactical directives. Within the squad, she has a close relationship with Sabina Fardin, who frequently checks her impulsive behavior while relying on her as a key second. She holds a sharp, personalized grudge against Earth House member Lilique Kadoka Lipati concerning a male student. She holds respect for the piloting expertise of upperclassman Guel Jeturk, and crosses paths with Felsi Rollo of Jeturk House during joint academy duties.
Trivia
Viewers frequently compare Renee to Felsi Rollo of Jeturk House due to their matching hair and eye color palettes. During the duel between Suletta Mercury and Guel Jeturk, she drew attention for lounging comfortably while eating macarons, adopting the demeanor of a middle-aged sports fan which created a memorable contrast with her standard conduct.
