Overview
SF-01 Super Fumina is a Gunpla originating from Gundam Build Fighters Try and Gundam Build Fighters Battlogue. Created by Sakai Minato as his masterwork entry for the Meijin Cup following the national tournament, it is an artistic mecha-musume model built in the likeness of Hoshino Fumina and equipped with elements derived from her Powered GM Cardigan. Designed by renowned illustrator Shimada Fumikane, Super Fumina serves both as a highly detailed display figure and a fully capable mobile suit for Gunpla battles.
Appearance
Super Fumina is a mecha-musume Gunpla modelled after Hoshino Fumina, featuring blonde hair in a ponytail with a hair ribbon and black bow, along with blue eyes. She wears a grey bodysuit with grey gloves, a bowtie, and a maid-style outfit modified with heavy mecha armor elements. Her construction incorporates varied textures and soft resin to mimic real skin and hair, with hidden frame joints disguised along outfit lines. The eyes use clear lens parts over painted seals to change pupils based on viewing angles. Compared to her human inspiration, her waist is sculpted 10 percent slimmer. The Titans Maid Ver. variant switches to a dark Titans color scheme with rabbit-ear headband accessories, alongside swap-out cat ears, tail, necktie, and frills.
Personality
In battle and during animated appearances, Super Fumina displays animated facial expressions that shift dynamically based on the situation. She reflects the energetic and headstrong disposition of her real-world counterpart, Hoshino Fumina. In Gundam Build Fighters Battlogue, she is depicted as a self-aware 'Gunpla Girl' who gained model capabilities, adventuring and fighting alongside her partner, Hyper Gyanko.
Abilities
Built with extreme weight reduction in mind, Super Fumina boasts exceptional agility and a broad range of articulation. Taking damage in combat triggers a cast-off system that purges her armor plates. Her armaments include a beam machine gun, a large beam rifle, and a gatling gun, modeled after the Powered GM Cardigan. Her backpack sub-arms hold shields that double as remote funnels equipped with beam blades for thrusting attacks. She also carries candy-wrapped dummy balloons modeled after Fumina, which deploy into full-sized decoys when blown on.
Background
Super Fumina was built in secret by Sakai Minato as his ultimate submission for the Meijin Cup, motivated by his feelings for Hoshino Fumina and his pursuit of artistic expression. Its surprise reveal shocked the judges and audience. However, because Minato built the model entirely without Fumina's permission—and altered her waist measurements in the process—he incurred her immediate wrath. The judge, Meijin Kawaguchi, penalized Minato for failing to respect his model's consent, awarding the championship victory to Minato's rival, Kousaka Yuma. Despite the backlash, Minato later produced variants such as the Titans Maid Ver., earning repeated physical punishment from Fumina.
Relationships
Super Fumina was crafted by Sakai Minato, whose passion and self-centered artistic vision brought her into being. Her namesake, Hoshino Fumina, strongly resents the unauthorized creation and its embarrassing armor-purge function, frequently punishing Minato physically. She competed at the Meijin Cup against Kousaka Yuma, who ultimately took first place. Meijin Kawaguchi praised the Gunpla's craftsmanship while reprimanding Minato's lack of courtesy toward his subject. In animated spin-offs, she acts as a close battle partner to Hyper Gyanko, a fellow Gunpla Girl based on Sazaki Kaoruko.
Trivia
The model number SF-01 carries a dual meaning standing for both 'SAKAI Favorite No. 1' and 'Super Fumina'. As a commercial High Grade Gunpla kit, its unique scaling resulted in an in-universe height setting of 24.5 meters, making the plastic model as large as a small Master Grade kit. The kit gained attention for using clear lens parts over the eyes to mimic eye-tracking effects without expensive pre-printing. Super Fumina later inspired various official model iterations, including the Axis Angel Ver., and appears in Gundam Breaker 4 as a popular base frame for custom mecha-musume builds.
