Loran Cehack

Overview

Loran Cehack is the main protagonist of the mecha anime series Turn A Gundam. Hailing from the Moonrace, a human population residing on the Moon, he is dispatched to Earth as part of an advance reconnaissance team to assess human adaptability. After falling in love with Earth's lifestyle and finding employment with the Heim family, he unexpectedly becomes the pilot of the ancient mobile suit WD-M01 Turn A Gundam. Aligning with the Ingressa Militia, Loran struggles to bridge the conflict between Earth residents and Moonrace forces, striving for peaceful coexistence and prioritizing human life above all else.

Appearance

Loran is a young man with dark skin, silver hair, emerald eyes, and noticeably androgynous features. He stands 168 centimeters tall and wears a hairband along with a long-sleeved shirt held up by suspenders. Due to his delicate facial structure, he is at times dressed in women's clothing under the female alias Laura Rolla. He constantly carries a personal treasure—a small tin goldfish piggy bank named Merry-san.

Personality

Loran possesses a gentle, humble, and compassionate nature. Free from superiority complexes regarding his lunar heritage, he deeply loves Earth and earnestly seeks harmony between its inhabitants and the Moonrace. Mentally grounded and mature for his age, he experiences minimal existential doubt, making swift decisions based on a clear moral compass. He holds an unwavering conviction to oppose anyone who disregards the sanctity of human life. Despite his emotional maturity, he remains remarkably oblivious to the romantic feelings directed toward him by others.

Abilities

Loran exhibits exceptional mechanical aptitude, high dexterity, and rapid processing capabilities. He is a highly capable mobile suit pilot, operating units such as the WD-M01 Turn A Gundam, FLAT, and Silver Sumo, eventually growing skilled enough to match veteran Moonrace aces. Rather than treating mobile suits solely as weapons, he creatively adapts them for peaceful endeavors, such as utilizing the Turn A's manipulators and thermal exhaust for washing clothes, carrying livestock in its chest silo, and using the machine's body as a temporary bridge. Additionally, he successfully uses nuclear warheads stored in the chest silo to destroy a falling asteroid, employing them strictly to protect lives.

Background

Born among the lower-class Canal People in the Beizam district of Genganam on the Moon, Loran originally suffered from a weak constitution. At age fifteen, he was chosen alongside his friends Keith Laijie and Fran Doll to descend to North Ameria on Earth as advance scouts testing environmental adaptability. After nearly drowning upon arrival, he was rescued by the Heim sisters and subsequently employed as a butler for their family, rapidly adjusting to Earth and overcoming his physical frailty. During a local coming-of-age ceremony, conflict erupted between Moonrace return forces and Earth inhabitants, awakening the hidden Turn A Gundam inside the White Doll monolith. Positioned as a Militia pilot under the female alter ego Laura Rolla, Loran fought to minimize casualties. After defeating Gym Gingham's Turn X in the final conflict, he retired to a serene life in a mountain cabin with Queen Dianna Soreil.

Relationships

Loran maintains unwavering loyalty and deep affection toward Queen Dianna Soreil, eventually settling into a quiet mountain life with her after the war. He was rescued by sisters Kiel Heim and Sochie Heim, working dutifully as their family butler; while Sochie harbors unrequited romantic feelings for him, Loran remains unaware of her affection. He shares a long-standing friendship with Keith Laijie and Fran Doll, who descended to Earth alongside him. Politician Guen Third Lineford recruited Loran into the Militia and created his female alter ego, though Loran eventually acted independently of Guen's political motives. In combat, he clashed fiercely with warlord Gym Gingham, opposing his destructive ambitions in the war's final showdown.

Trivia

Loran is the second male lead in a mainline Gundam television series to crossdress, following Judau Ashta from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. He is also unique among lead Gundam television protagonists for deploying nuclear weapons during the narrative; however, he utilized them exclusively to destroy a falling asteroid and save human lives rather than as instruments of warfare. His cherished tin goldfish savings bank, named Merry-san, serves both as a personal keepsake and as a recurring visual device used to obscure his modesty during scenes in which he is unclothed.
