Appearance
The machine features a head with a horizontal camera opening and a forward-projecting neck, alongside a chest assembly composed of a large central block flanked by smaller side blocks. Four large flexible binders on the shoulders double as shields and main thruster housings, allowing the arms to retract inside for a high-speed transit mode. A rear skirt container is mounted at the waist to hold remote weaponry, and the forearm cuffs integrate internal beam weapon ports.
Personality
While an uncrewed system in itself, the Qubeley functions as a direct reflection of its pilot's focus through its mental link. It demands exceptional Newtype potential from its operator to perform at peak capacity, imposing a severe mental load on anyone unable to match the high requirements of its psycommu interface.
Abilities
Constructed with Gundarium alloy, the machine achieves high maneuverability using main verniers inside its shoulder binders for AMBAC movement. It carries ten 1.3MW funnels in its rear skirt container, capable of performing psychically controlled all-range beam attacks while replenishing energy and propellant. Its close and mid-range arsenal includes combination beam gun and saber units in the forearm cuffs and two large, high-output beam sabers housed inside the shoulder binders. To prevent interference, separate psycommu transmission systems are placed in the head and manipulators, while internal drive signals are transmitted wirelessly.
Background
Initiated under Haman Karn's directive in anticipation of conflict with Earth Federation forces, the Qubeley was developed using blueprints for the Touche Schwarz and Bio-Signal Enhancer data retrieved from Char Aznable's former office. Haman acted as the primary test subject during its creation by former Flanagan Institute personnel. It debuted during the late Gryps Conflict in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, engaging elite machines such as the Hyaku Shiki, Zeta Gundam, and The O. In the climax of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, it fought a grueling duel against Judau Ashta's ZZ Gundam, culminating in its destruction against the wall of the Moussa asteroid.
Relationships
The Qubeley is the personal mobile suit of Haman Karn, who draws out its maximum combat performance. Its development drew upon documents left behind by Char Aznable. On the battlefield, it clashed with key opponents including Kamille Bidan's Zeta Gundam, Paptimus Scirocco's The O, and Judau Ashta's ZZ Gundam. Its technical success later served as the foundation for derivative units such as the Qubeley Mk-II and the Mass Production Type Qubeley.
Trivia
Designed by Mamoru Nagano, the mecha incorporates structural design cues derived from the Zaku lineage, notably in its horizontal head aperture and chest composition. Though its baseline paper specifications—such as total thrust and generator output—were average for its generation and comparable to standard units like the Gundam Mk-II, its synergy with its pilot's psycommu capability enabled it to outmatch far more advanced mobile suits.
