Core Gundam

The PFF-X7 Core Gundam is the central Gunpla featured in Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, custom-built and piloted by Kuga Hiroto. Inspired by the design concept of the classic RX-78 Gundam, it functions as the base unit for the innovative Planets System. Characterized by its distinctly smaller size compared to standard mobile suits, the Core Gundam utilizes its lightweight agility alongside Hiroto's high-level piloting skills. By combining with specialized planetary-themed support armors, the machine achieves wide tactical versatility across different battle environments, serving as the cornerstone of Hiroto's combat strategy within the alliance BUILD DiVERS.

Overview

Appearance

The Core Gundam features a noticeably compact silhouette with an in-setting head height of 14.1 meters. Its head unit is adorned with a V-fin antenna and green eyes. The machine's color scheme evolved over time, starting in a Real Type coloration, transitioning to a G-3 pattern, and ultimately adopting a standard tricolor scheme upon joining AVALON. Visually, its physical loadout includes two head-mounted vulcan guns, two back-mounted Core Sabers, a hand-held Core Spray Gun, and a Core Shield.

Personality

As a non-sentient mecha, the Core Gundam embodies creator Kuga Hiroto's drive to explore the latent possibilities of smaller-scale Gunpla. Its combat identity relies not on brute force, but on pragmatic tactical flexibility and strategic ingenuity. When confronted by power deficits against larger enemies, it compensates through clever positioning, high mobility, and seamless gear switching. The machine reflects a disciplined approach to battle, prioritizing technical mastery and rational adaptation over overwhelming firepower.

Abilities

The Core Gundam utilizes its small, lightweight frame for superior mobility, equipped with twin head vulcans, two back-mounted Core Sabers, a Core Spray Gun, and a Core Shield. Its central feature is the Planets System, allowing it to dock with planetary-themed armors to change forms and adapt to specialized combat styles and terrains. Although limited in inherent firepower against heavy Eldora targets due to its small generator size, it successfully destroyed major bosses including the Akatsugee and a Gaw attack carrier.

Background

The Core Gundam was created after Kuga Hiroto piloted a Speed Grade RX-78-2 Gundam against a Perfect Grade Strike Gundam in GPD, inspiring him to test the combat potential of small-scale Gunpla. Its unorthodox design gained attention, facilitating his recruitment into the elite force AVALON despite his lack of prior major achievements. Later operating under BUILD DiVERS, the machine took part in dangerous missions across GBN and the world of Eldora. After Hiroto learned the reality behind the story missions, he resolved to upgrade the suit, enhancing its performance and granting it transformability as the Core Gundam II.

Relationships

Built and piloted by Kuga Hiroto, the machine's signature Planets System armor naming scheme was devised alongside Eve. The suit's versatile design significantly influenced others: the enemy entity Alus analyzed its structure to produce the Alus Core Gundam, while the EL-Diver Rize and his guardian Tetsu created the Core Gundam Rize based on its design. Additionally, Captain Zeon proposed the support unit Core Jim within side-story materials to assist with armor transportation.

Trivia

The model number PFF-X7 references the original FF-X7 Core Fighter from Mobile Suit Gundam, with the "P" denoting the Planets System. The docking vocal command "Core Change" directly homages classic Gundam assembly sequences. Design sketches suggest the G-Armor served as concept inspiration, while early planning stages of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ similarly featured a small "Core Gundam" unit that merged with larger components. The color schemes drawn in the series directly reflect the color variants produced for the real-world Gunpla kit releases.
