GM Command
The GM Command is a high-performance mass-produced mobile suit developed by the Earth Federation Forces during the final phase of the One Year War. Originating in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, it was designed as an extensive overhaul of the GM D-Type to significantly boost mobility and combat performance against heavy enemy units. With specifications close to the original Gundam in several areas, the machine was primarily assigned to veteran commanders and seasoned pilots defending critical space bases and colonies.
Overview
The GM Command is a high-performance mass-produced mobile suit developed by the Earth Federation Forces during the final phase of the One Year War. Originating in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, it was designed as an extensive overhaul of the GM D-Type to significantly boost mobility and combat performance against heavy enemy units. With specifications close to the original Gundam in several areas, the machine was primarily assigned to veteran commanders and seasoned pilots defending critical space bases and colonies.
Appearance
While maintaining the traditional GM silhouette, the GM Command features a distinct visor internally fitted with a Zeon-style mono-eye sensor. Its backpack houses additional posture-control thrusters. The armor color scheme differs by combat domain: the ground and colony defense units feature cream and black tones, whereas space units utilize classic white and red. Two beam sabers are mounted on the rear skirt armor, and the suit carries a custom large shield characterized by its slim armor thickness and curved exterior.
Abilities
The suit relies on two 60mm vulcan cannons built into the head alongside dual rear-skirt-mounted beam sabers for close-quarters fighting. Ranged armaments include a 20-round 90mm bullpup machine gun adaptable to multiple rifle configurations, a high-output beam gun optimized for space combat, and a 380mm Hyper Bazooka. Its handheld large shield incorporates a slightly curved shape to deflect incoming attacks while maintaining mobility.
Background
Developed at the Augusta Base late in the conflict, the suit entered service when terrestrial warfare was winding down, leading many units to be deployed for orbital base defense. High manufacturing costs restricted its wide release, putting most units into the hands of experienced pilots. Units were stationed around Side 6 with forces like the Scarlet Team and saw active combat during major actions including the Battle of A Baoa Qu. Post-war Federation mobile suit development adopted many of its design solutions.
Relationships
As a Federation mass-production model evolved from the RGM-79D framework, the GM Command was piloted by notable aces including Yuu Kajima, Philip Hughes, Samana Fjuris, and Uug Kuro. In battle, it engaged enemy Zeon forces deploying Doms, Gelgoog Cannons, and Bigros. The suit served as the technical foundation for numerous specialized derivatives, such as the GM Sniper II, GM Spartan, and GM Light Armor.
Trivia
The machine originally started as a visual redesign of the standard GM for Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, but its drastically modernized aesthetic led creators to categorize it as a standalone upgraded unit. Its internal mono-eye camera under the visor remained a rare trait among GM variants until the introduction of the Jegan. In SD Gundam G Generation Genesis, adding this mobile suit to the production registry allows players to recruit specific ace pilots.
