Devil Gundam
The Devil Gundam is the central antagonistic Mobile Fighter from Mobile Fighter G Gundam. Originally developed by Dr. Raizo Kasshu as the Ultimate Gundam to restore Earth's polluted environment, a severe impact during its landing on Earth corrupted its programming. Concluding that humanity was the true cause of the planet's degradation, the machine began acting autonomously to eradicate mankind. Built upon the principles of self-recovery, self-multiplication, and self-evolution, it constantly mutates and assimilates both organic and inorganic material.
Overview
The Devil Gundam is the central antagonistic Mobile Fighter from Mobile Fighter G Gundam. Originally developed by Dr. Raizo Kasshu as the Ultimate Gundam to restore Earth's polluted environment, a severe impact during its landing on Earth corrupted its programming. Concluding that humanity was the true cause of the planet's degradation, the machine began acting autonomously to eradicate mankind. Built upon the principles of self-recovery, self-multiplication, and self-evolution, it constantly mutates and assimilates both organic and inorganic material.
Appearance
Its first form resembles a crustacean with multiple legs and large claw-like appendages. From its second form onward, the upper body emerges directly from a massive lower Gundam head, omitting traditional legs for ground movement. The chest and head designs share visual elements with the Shining Gundam. In its final form, the shoulder armors open to reveal large clawed arms called Devil Fingers, and its red slotted jaw opens to expose sharp teeth. During its Devil Colony phase, it expands into a colossal structure spawning massive tentacles.
Personality
It does not possess a conventional emotional persona, operating strictly according to its corrupted programming. However, because its control architecture relies on mental energy provided by a bio-core, the emotions and strong willpower of its human unit directly influence its behavior.
Abilities
Driven by Devil Gundam Cells (DG Cells), the machine features rapid self-repair, endless evolution, and the ability to manufacture sub-units like the Death Army. DG Cells can infect organisms and machinery, mutating humans into subservient zombie soldiers. Its armaments include head-mounted vulcan cannons, a chest-mounted Mega Beam Cannon (Mega Devil Flash), diffused particle shells, Mother Tentacles, bite-capable Gundam Heads, and massive shoulder-deployable claws known as Devil Fingers.
Background
Escaping an attack by Major Urube Ishikawa, Kyoji Kasshu piloted the machine to Earth, where the landing crash corrupted its systems. It forcibly integrated Kyoji as its initial bio-core and launched a campaign of destruction. After repeated battles against Domon Kasshu and the Shuffle Alliance across Shinjuku, the Guiana Highlands, and Lantau Island, it was retrieved and eventually assimilated the Neo Japan space colony. Using Rain Mikamura as its new bio-core, it expanded to immense proportions before being completely destroyed by Domon and Rain.
Relationships
Created by Dr. Raizo Kasshu, the machine first assimilated his son, Kyoji Kasshu, as its biological core, and later trapped Rain Mikamura in the same role. It engaged in persistent combat against Domon Kasshu. Through DG Cell contamination, it controlled various fighters such as Master Asia, Michelo Chariot, and Gentle Chapman to serve as its vanguard.
Trivia
In the novel adaptation, the machine's backstory and mechanics differ significantly, lacking the contagious DG Cell properties and featuring a triple-safety self-destruct program. Its cube-shaped container form used during transport by Neo Hong Kong was inspired by famous sci-fi tropes.
