Overview

Crowley Hamon is a prominent supporting character in the Mobile Suit Gundam series. She is the common-law wife of Zeon officer Ramba Ral and accompanies his squad to Earth. Although she is not an official military officer, she earns equal respect from the crew and stands beside Ral on the bridge of the land battleship Gallop. Alongside Matilda Ajan, she is depicted as an influential, mature woman who leaves a lasting impression on the protagonist, Amuro Ray.

Appearance

She is a woman with short blonde hair and green eyes. Her visual details include wearing earrings, jewelry, a wristwatch, and a black shirt.

Personality

Hamon is composed, perceptive, and deeply affectionate toward her partner, Ramba Ral. She possesses sharp intuition, able to see through the cunning personalities and motives of figures like M'Quve. While she exhibits a generous and warm disposition—demonstrated when she took a liking to Amuro Ray at a diner and offered to buy him a meal—she also possesses a fierce, decisive nature. Following Ral's death, she was consumed by vengeance and demonstrated iron resolve in leading their remaining forces into a dangerous final assault.

Abilities

Despite lacking formal military training, Hamon displays extraordinary tactical leadership, taking command of the surviving squad after Ramba Ral's death. She is a skilled operator of vehicles and heavy units, including the Magella Attack and early RTX-65 Guntank models. In combat, she devised a fatal strategy by utilizing the Gallop's cargo unit filled with explosives as a decoy while personally piloting a Magella Top to ambush the Gundam at point-blank range from behind.

Background

Hamon descended to Earth alongside Ramba Ral's squad to pursue the White Base. During the campaign, she met a deserting Amuro Ray at a diner in the town of Sodom. After Ral fell in battle, she assumed command of the remaining troops to launch a desperate retaliation against the White Base. She maneuvered the Gundam into a trap using an explosive-laden cargo module and ambushed it from behind in a Magella Top, but was stopped when Ryu Jose rammed her craft with his Core Fighter. In the parallel story Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, her past as a club singer in Side 3 and her key role in aiding young Casval and Artesia's escape are revealed.

Relationships

She shares a passionate, devoted bond with her common-law husband, Ramba Ral. She serves as an object of admiration and emotional growth for young Amuro Ray. In the backstory presented in The Origin, she was close to Astraia Tor Deikun and played a crucial protective role in assisting Astraia's children, Casval (Char Aznabable) and Artesia (Sayla Mass), during their youth.

Trivia

Although frequently referred to as "Hamon Ral" in some secondary sources due to her relationship with Ramba Ral, Hamon is actually her family name, and the two were never legally married. In Tomino's original novel adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam, she is given a vastly different background as a former mistress of Gihren Zabi working as a covert agent for Degwin Sod Doikun.
